Summary: Way too slow, even for home use. I have about 15 of these that I work with at my job. This is the only 212E that we have. It is just way too underpowered to do anything effectively. Spend the money and buy one with a larger processor and more memory.
Summary: Despite all the great functions that this device has to offer, it only works well on some of them. Fortunately the useful functions work fine. Con: -The transcoding will only scale up or down with compatible format, most likely standard mp4. Otherwise it will freeze without warning. -I got a couple of errors from simple task like copying. -I cannot mount and access smb on my Android phone even though it is r/w permission to everyone. -There are lots of crashy apps.
Summary: I brought the 212 prior to this model and video playback stutters and skips frames. Music seems ok. So thoroughly investigate if you are looking to stream movies. Also the Qnap app for both the ipad and the lumina 520 fails to recognize the server but my desktop and laptops communicate quite well. Technical service is about turnover. They have directed me to specifics in their website to find answers. In short more work than I anticipated.
Summary: I saw this one was on sale so I decided to give QNAP a try since I already have two 2-bay NAS from Synology. The hardware is fine, solid, good looking and easy to install, however the software is buggy, both Ethernet and USB 3 speed are slow when compare to products from Synology with similar spec.
Summary: I would buy another NAS (other brand), but a friend told me this would be great. I did not like this. See below why: 1. NAS becomes slow on my network and I have to restart every 3 days. For example, to paste a mp3 file to another folder inside NAS it can spend 10 minutes 2. I can't upgrade the firmware. Every time occurs an error. I saw in a forum that it is necessary to remove the HDs to upgrade 3. I installed Plex, but it doesnt work well.
Summary: I bought this for my husband and from the start it created problems. This product is not user friendly and even though my husband is quite the 'tecchie', he still did not find it easy to use or install. Not impressed and feel rather ripped off.
Takes a long time to set up and seems to be a bit dated

Summary: I bought this a week ago and I'm still having problems with the software and latest firmware update. It does not seem to be capable of carrying out the tasks it promises on the box, especially anything involving multi-media. The QNAP forum is full of discussions of various problems people are experiencing. personally I think the main problem is that it lacks processing power and this is needed to run any kind of media server such as Plex or Twonga.
