Great home NAS/iScsi device

epikbob, Amazon
23 June 2012
  • Summary: I purchased this as well as 2 x 2TB disks to run a 2 node ESX installation. It was easy to setup, easy to partition, easy to setup iscsi datastores. I ended up using a lot of the built in features QNAP offers, and they update the firmware often.

Difficult to set-up - failed

DaveClarkVibe, Amazon
27 August 2011
  • Summary: Either the unit or the drive failed for me. Set-up was VERY cumbersome. I had purchased this for my Mac because folks had said it was very easy. Do not believe it. The online interface is terrible and for the non IT guy, very confusing. I returned the unit and the drives. A waste of time and money.

Do not buy: Sent out for RMA and they sent it back unrepaired.

James W., Newegg
16 April 2011
  • Summary: I am requesting my money back from Newegg. I urge you to tread cautiously with QNAP products. I read negative reviews on newegg and other web forums regarding QNAP, but decided to take a chance with QNAP anyway. Now I regret my purchasing decision as I now have an expensive doorstop.
  • Pros: Impressive demonstration video of the AJAX management web interface. Too bad I never got to see it in action for myself after owning the product for more than a month. Seeing as I never got to use this product to observe for myself the positive qualities of this product I will use this space to r...
  • Cons: I installed 2 ST32000542AS Hard drives which are on the manufacturer drive compatibility list. NAS required firmware to be uploaded after drive initialization, but whenever I tried to upload after initialization it kept bringing me back to the hard drive initialization web page. I decided to SSH ...

Awesome

Max, Amazon
20 February 2011
  • Summary: This NAS is one of the best solutions for server & backup at a low cost. It has great features for novice and advanced users. One downside is the compatibility list of HDDs, so you should check the list before buying HDDs for the NAS.

Great Linux Server & 2-Bay NAS

MacTech Guy "Chris", Amazon
15 December 2010
  • Summary: Full Disclosure: I did not buy this item, I ordered a "QNAP TS 209 Pro II Turbo 2-bay NAS" Used VGC from an established Amazon seller. But I received the QNAP TS-210, apparently new in the box {store return?}. Seller is OK with the deal and so am I!

Bad deal

Joseph Hoshen, Amazon
9 September 2010
  • Summary: After reading the great reviews on this site on the QNAP TS-210, I decided to buy the unit. For the device I used 2 Seagate QNAP compliant hard drives. I then ran the installation software. After initialization I got the following message "The system cannot detect any hard drives.

Upgrade from a 1-Drive NAS to a 2-Drive NAS

Menehune, Amazon
2 August 2010
  • Summary: I'm not very technical on my NAS drives, but I was using a TS-109 II until I found that I could really use a shell the offers 2 NAS drives. I highly recommend the brand and would recommend this particular model for folks who only want a set of network drives for a growing home network.

The best 2-bay NAS box for the money!!

Capt. Bon, Amazon
2 January 2010
  • Summary: I have tried a few of these boxes, and settled for QNAP. To make long story short, this box has very low operating and standby power (not counting drive power), it is quiet with smart fan (3 speeds auto/manual adjusted based on drive or system temp), transfer speed for >4GB files from my Dell XPS...
