Summary: After receiving the QNAP I installed a WD 2TB Hard Drive, attached to the network and powered it up. I followed the quick installation to configure it. Right away I was disappointed due tho the Server Name being limited to 14 characters. On the QNAP, the Server Name is also the Host Name so anything requiring more than 14 character Host Name will not work. After following the guided setup, the Status LED continued to flash green.
Summary: Not satisfied at all. I'm a pretty technical person. I've built my own PC's for north of a decade, set-up my own networks, and can pretty much do anything with a PC. I bought this when my Windows Home Server dies as I was short on cash but needed a home server. This thing was just a disaster compared to what I was used to. It's hard to use, it's hard to set-up, and just plain not user friendly. The deal breaker for me is that it's not stable.
Summary: I purchased this product based on the general reviews of QNAP products a little over a week ago. Unfortunately, the QNAP TS-12 device failed to work properly out of the box, it caused my Windows 7 laptop (which is fully patched) to crash every time I tried to read or write files from the TS-112.
Summary: This poor quality NAS has only lasted 21 months. I used it very rarely and purely as a backup device, as such its only been turned on 20 to 30 times. I had hoped that it might have lasted a few more months... Even if it had lasted I'd suggest avoiding any QNAP product. They sound good on paper but it's been a pain to interface with. Windows has been OK, Linux was frustrating at times.
Summary: This is the worst NAS drive I have ever encountered. I have installed their bigger offerings without problems. I have now spent approximately 3 hours trying to get this unit working. Technical support has been a joke with a standard cut and paste telling me what to do which isn't relative to the product in any way. I have put three separate firmware versions on the unit now to be presented each time either with a cgi download page or the initial setup web page.
Summary: Update : Jan 2014. Unit has developed a fault - webserver no longer visible on LAN or WAN. DLNA server still works. This is nearly a good product, it just hasn't worked consistently since the day it was first turned on. As I've seen in other reviews (but made the mistake of ignoring), my TS-112 has been delivered with the wrong power supply lead. It is a UK lead but it's a traditional 'kettle flex' with rectangular connectors on the end that goes into the power supply.
Summary: I'd like to say the QNAP is a good product. On paper it is fantastic but the truth is that it is a waste of money. Having purchased two, one for myself and one for a family member, I thought they would answer all the network issues we were having. Initially it performed fine, set-up seemed to go well and we could see it across our various PCs, laptops and consoles. We could even print. Then came the problem.
Summary: Das Einrichten hat mich sehr viel Zeit gekostet.
