Curiously Slow

Michael H., Newegg
10 July 2008
  • Summary: It doesn't take up much space, and it provides a lot of space, but it's really slow and doesn't even approach 1Gbps. You'd probably get equal performance out of it on a 100Mbps network.
  • Pros: Simple to setup, sufficient functionality, 2.2TB of RAID5 storage, relatively inexpensive, only 1U.
  • Cons: Surprisingly slow. Despite it's 1000Mbps connection, this unit is very slow for both NFS and SMB transfers, at least when running in RAID5. • Pros: TONS of features, quick & easy to setup, never left me scratching my head, only takes up 1U on the rack.
  • Cons: Response times have been curiously slow today (via web interface or mounting shares). This issue just popped up a few hours before this writing.
