Summary: Support and warranty are almost useless. Contacted Netgear support via online chat and chatted with their tech (Rene). At one point I took issue with the warranty coverage and asked (twice) to speak with a supervisor, her response was (direct quote), "what's the point, Sir!
Pros: The NAS chassis is better than the alleged warranty.
Cons: Free tech support is only 90-days, in spite of what the warranty covers. Tech support personnel have attitude problems and are very hard to understand. Products made in China. Where is the good old Made In America brand?
Pros: been running 4 Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive for 3 years now with no issues. One of the nice features is additional plugins that can be installed like ssh access
Cons: With the raid set it does run slow reading and writing, but its worth it to have a backup
Summary: I have been limping along with this thing for several years, and it has NEVER performed as I would have liked. Today I got a Kernel Panic, so it looks like I'll be buying a new system which will NOT be Netgear. Customer service is crappy (and just to get it requires hours of hoop-jumping).
Summary: The gigabit connection is a joke because this thing can't go over 12 MB/s that's about 100 Mbits And no, it's not because a link misconfiguration, the link is configured to gbit the problem is that the CPU on it is so slow it goes to 100% usage with just that much data comming to it of course, the...
Summary: I got mine on sale from Newegg on sale, as part of a combo. I am not sure if this is still the best NAS for the price, but I love mine and would recommend it to anyone I know.
Pros: Great notification system, No downtime 1yr latter, X-Raid works great. Just does what it advertised as advertised. I have had no issues with speed. I switched to a newer Linksys N4500 dual band router (previous one was dual-band Netgear) and only noticed a increase in speeds. Definitely having it...
Cons: External power supply seems silly when the unit already has a massive fan and fairly large enclosure to begin with. Wish it came with a more comprehensive owners manual. The ReadyNAS forum is great but I wish it just had a thick PDF manual.
Summary: Bought this unit and sent it back after 2 weeks of use. This unit is full of bugs. It appears that it has been abandoned by Netgear. The most common problem appears to be the horrible throughput, same as i had. 20 - 30 MB's / s is all you are going to get out of this unit.
Pros: Good build quality, easy disk installation, easy to use.
Cons: Buggy firmware, lack of application support, lack of jumbo packets, pitiful throughput, single lan, horrible support
Summary: I just got mine a little over a Week Ago. It's a nice little 4 bay unit. It was pretty simple to setup and start using. I installed it into my Closet with the rest of my Hardware. The one thing I didn't know for sure was if my UPS that I already had in my Closet would work with it?!?!
Summary: Prior to purchasing this unit, I read some of the Amazon reviews like I normally do for these type of products. I decided that some of the reviewers probably don't have a very good understanding of these products and that was their problem.
