Netgear didn't tell you the CPU speed here because it's slower than listed

Michael's Reviews "Michael's Reviews to benefit mankind :D", Amazon
4 December 2013
  • Summary: On the surface it looks good. It's a metal case which looks nice and solid quality. There is no qualm with the build quality of the unit. The software itself is fine for basic purposes. I had been looking at the Synology units and it would seem that their "add ons" for their devices are developed more regularly and with more of them than for ReadyNAS.

disappointing add-ons and web UI, but the basics seem solid

Dieter Plaetinck, Amazon
23 December 2012
  • Summary: buggy UI, esp. related to user management. very small selection of add-ons. many of which are provided by some community members (in binary form) who charge money, which is not obvious at first. the included streaming software is poor (no transcoding, does recscans involving deleting and recreating its database).

TiVo support not what it's cracked up to be

Ted, Amazon
4 May 2012
  • Summary: I bought this device with the expectation that I would be able to offload saved videos from my TiVo to my ReadyNAS and play them back as though I had TiVo Desktop installed on my device. Even with the latest version of the firmware, I cannot do that. I mention this because there is a lot of confusion on message boards around expectations of this functionality.

Do not Purchase WD20EARS Drives for this Unit

Sean OConnor, Amazon
24 February 2012
  • Summary: Amazon lists this drive on the products page of this unit so I purchased two of them. Then I read all the problems people have so I contacted Western Digital. These drives are not to be used in NAS units or any server or pc running a RAID configuration. I am returning the drives I ordered and will be looking for an alternative product. I have not had a chance yet to actually work with this NAS as I need to purchase solid hard drives.

Horrible Software

Ed Geiser, Amazon
17 September 2011
  • Summary: It has been years since I have wrestled with worse software. The included RAIDAR control and setup software was fairly straight forward until I tried setting up the integral backup function. I could not establish the network communication between the source PCs and the ReadyNAS needed to implement the backup. The email support service was absolutely worthless. The included NTI backup software package which is not integrated into the RAIDAR package worked, sort of.

Getting on my nerves

KillarBlaze007, Amazon
18 August 2011
  • Summary: Nice little NAS, but it has stopped streaming video for some reason. Setting up shares and access rights is a pain, if you can figure it out. And I'm not sure I got it right. 3 stars because I need storage, 2x 1GB network ports plus 2x 2TB disks, this box gives me that. From the specs, adding another 2 drives should be pain free.
