  • Summary: After being a generally satisfied user of a ReadyNAS Duo for a few years I was looking to upgrade our home NAS. I use the NAS for Mac "Time Machine" backups and as a home media server....nothing too extreme. Being familiar with ReadyNAS I purchased this unit figuring it would be an easy setup with an increase in performance. WRONG.

What a nightmare.

  • Summary: I've had mixed luck with Netgear products over the past ten years or so and I'd already learned to stay away from their soho routers. Their workgroup switches are mediocre at best but do the job. Recently I decided to get 2 of their ReadyNAS RNDU4000 units a try, simply because they were cheap, small and relatively mobile (which was one of my factors in buying these unit), plus 8 2TB SATA HDDs that were on the compatibility list.

  • Summary: My initial installation went smooth, but then the unit got really slow and I was unable to use the NetGear RAIDar utility. After an endless email exchange with support, they asked me to call them for help. I did. Things went down hill from there. NetGear's support is the worst I have ever encountered. I was willing to pay for support to resolve my issue.

  • Summary: Netgear makes it impossible to buy their product. I called right after a got the item and they told me that in their system the unit was recorded as sold years before (2006) and could not offer support as how to set it up. I asked to escalate to a supervisor, was promised a call back and they never called. The person on the line was clueless.

Worst customer service from Netgear

  • Summary: I received this product and set it up as per instructions. After one week of trying to configuring it to make it work for remote access on http, I called the customer service and they were extremely frustrating to deal with and said it cannot be done. I am novice but skilled enough to know that its doable.

2 units don't work out of the box

  • Summary: I ordered one of these units. I was very excited until I tried to turn the unit on. From the beginning I have had nothing but problems. After working with Netgear customer support several times the unit was determined to be dead on arrival and the unit was replaced. I just received the replacement unit and it too is not working right out the box. I would not recommend purchasing one of these units.
