NETGEAR Customer Service Terrible - Online Backup Storage Service Very Expensive

John Daigle Jr. "jdinjax", Amazon
13 October 2014
  • Summary: Netgear's Customer Service is among the worst I have ever experienced. I purchased this product last week. The product appears good so far. However, I was extremely unhappy to learn that in order to get the online backup service that I read about in the product's advertisement it was going to cost...

Decent Unit, Very Poor Technical Support

Leland D Johnson, Amazon
25 September 2013
  • Summary: The unit itself is relatively simple to set up. For a home user or corporate user who have IT personnel onsite, this is a reasonable system. That is until you need tech support. Mine had a drive fail inside of 30 days of putting it into use.

-The hardware is nicely done and appears solidly manufactured

Benjamin Martinez, Amazon
15 September 2013
  • Summary: Pros: -The hardware is nicely done and appears solidly manufactured. -Initial basic setup was a breeze. This was unit was basically plug and play, then follow a few screens on the website. At that point my home computer and android phone could access the unit and perform basic functions.

Hardware is great. User Interface is marginal. Support needs improvement. Warranty sucks.

R. Bainbridge, Amazon
15 September 2013
  • Summary: I have many Netgear ReadyNAS products and have been a user since 2008. These are good products and definitely work as advertised. I purchased the 'bare' (diskless) system and then bought the drives separately.

Not happy with what they used for HDD on 12TB edition. They used ST3000DM001, and it is terrible choice.

Hidenori Inagaki, Amazon
15 September 2013
  • Summary: Good devices, and I am very happy with NAS server it self, but Not happy with what they used for HDD on 12TB edition. I got this one for client's practice to back up their server. Operation of this server is pretty straight forward.

Not without issues

JKT, Amazon
15 September 2013
  • Summary: The NETGEAR ReadyNAS 204 is a good value if you are looking for a basic system for backing up files to a raided storage device. When I first hooked it up I was a little overwhelmed as I am a first time NAS user.

A few problems initially, but solid since then

khkman22, Amazon
15 September 2013
  • Summary: I received this product free through the NETGEAR Friends and Family program. Setup was not as easy as shown in the setup manual. After I "discovered" the NAS on the network, I never had the opportunity to click "setup" as shown in the manual.

Not so simple to use...

VMI 1982, Amazon
14 September 2013
  • Summary: Extremely difficult to get it to mirror with the second unit. The instruction were vague at best and there was nothing better (at least that I was able to find) on line. One unit set up pretty easy, but the second unit spoiled the experience.

A sound device

David L, Amazon
15 September 2013
  • Summary: Well configured and delivered as described. I just can't seem to get the transfer speeds I had with my previous device. I haven't had time to heck with the netgear folk but it will need some tweaking which is a nuisance.

Great until I needed to replace a drive

John Roe, Amazon
15 September 2013
  • Summary: Worked very well until I needed to change one of the drives. NB A little slow when accessing via Mac due to AFP speeds. The ReadyNAS configuration was 2 x 3TB and 2 x 1TB all as one volume Raid 6. So I replaced a drive 3TB disc with confidence and waited 7hrs for it to rebuild.
