Summary: I bought this with the sole intention of streaming video and music to my PS3 and have ended up doing a great deal more with it - namely, streaming music to my android phone and through my browser at work.
Pros: Since completing setup, it's been 100% reliable JBOD configuration possible after firmware updates Reliable DLNA streaming
Cons: Setup was clunky. Software update funtion needed to be run repeatedly before all updates were applied. Some files display in the wrong directory over DLNA. I wouldn't recommend this device to someone of a low technical level.
Summary: Got it at a usually overpriced shop for 150$ (how is it possible?! cheaper than newegg? maybe they wrote the tag wrong). I really love it. 2 disks 2tb in automatic raid1, many features like torrent client or sharing online (I'd never do that but they are there)
Pros: -It accepts 2TB disks!!! -The USB can be used to attach other drives -It runs a small linux (stable) -Gigabit runs fast -Silent and power efficient -Nice web interface
Cons: - UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE (many times untill there are no more updates), not a con just something to do. - copying file inside windows network doesnt work after t oo many files, FTP is flawless and super reliable (use that!)
Summary: People do complain about the lack of certain advertised features. The newest firmware delivers all that is promised on the box - its version 2.3.1. It can be downloaded directly from Netgear's support site.
Pros: Uses a Marvel ARM 800mhz processor for low power consumption. Supports WD Green EADS drives without issue due to script that detects and changes the spin down interval. Highly Moddable with a great community resource at openstora.com Once Modded it will support in addition to all advertised featu...
Cons: In order to obtain easy access to root SSH one has to register the first account online through mystora.com Without modding the feature set of this NAS is deminished greatly. Additionally there a multiple backdoors present for Axentra/Netgear to gain access to your Stora that are setup by default...
Summary: Would like to be able to make my own files in the stora rather than using what they have.. thou you can rename the sub folders You can set the unit to shut off and on at certain times each day of the week. Buy it youll like it. Any as always NewEgg is great company to deal with.
Pros: When you sign in from the internet to the Stora inface. It lets you SEE the photos. not just a ftp tupe list. Big deal to me. Easy to set up and use. Havent had any problems with it what so ever. If you just want it for networking storage. very very easy to set up.
Summary: I have an edit to my review below. Apparently my slow transfer speeds were due to a bad NIC card. Once this was taken care of I immediately started getting read speeds in the area of 30-40mbps which is very good. Still getting the occasional drop off.
Pros: cheap, not as slow as I previously thought. I streamed 2 hd(720) movies at once with no stutter. Will have to test with 1080p w/5.1 before I'll give it my full endorsement.
Summary: I did a good deal of research in trying to find the right NAS to fit my needs and wants. Everyone has some deficiency somewhere and this one meet most of my wants and needs. It has ample storage, easy setup and configuration for any level of knowledge and is compatible with a lot of my peripherals.
Pros: Good Price. Easy setup. PS3 compatible. Smartphone accessibility. Easy to share files with anyone. Itunes sharing.
Summary: I'm overall happy with the drive - like I noted in my "cons", setting the drive up on my son's machine (XP limited rights) was a real hassle. Still not sure I have it working perfectly yet - i didn't feel like rebooted get again to test it last night. Vista and Win 7 it worked great.
Pros: 1. Quick and easy setup of shared drives 2. Footprint and quiet operation 3. Value
Cons: 1. Configuration for XP limited user difficult 2. USB Printer connection goes offline (even though printer is online) - this was very frustrating and I atribute it to my son's limited user XP rights 3. Documentation
Pros: A couple of years ago I bought an external hard drive that had similar capability (or was supposed to) as the Stora. It stunk. We returned it. The interface was clunky and it was hard to access our data remotely. So you can imagine my relief when we plugged in our new Stora and it worked exactly ...
Cons: In order to access it on your iPhone there is a monthly subscription. At least it's a reasonable amount.
Summary: Although this unit doesn't work with Linux systems, it set up just fine with my mixed Mac and Windows setup. Backup function works just fine, but it's bothersome that I have to use Netgear's website to access it.
Pros: 1. It looks great. Far too many hard drives are so ugly they must be hidden. 2. It's designed as a RAID device. Redundant storage is very, very good. 3. Has a USB port for an additional hard drive or printer. 4. Allows for multiple users to access shared data via FTP and local access. 5. Gigabit ...
Cons: 1. RAID-only. No option to have dual hard drives. 2. USB port is oddly positioned. Should have been on back. 3. No wireless. 4. REQUIRES an internet connection to work, which is kinda weird.
