Summary: FIRST THING - YOU DO NOT NEED THE SATA CABLE NOTED IN THE BUNDLE OFFER TO ADD A SECOND DRIVE TO THIS UNIT - DO NOT BUY THE CABLE IF YOU WANT TO ADD THE SECOND DRIVE The Stora is a very basic NAS drive and will do most things you want but note = there is a limited number of media file types supported. the extra services that are available for the system are premium paid for at $19.99 per year. It will not stream to a Squeezebox as you cannot put sqeezeserver on it.
Summary: I bought this in home that it could be the "Server" for our home. I Like the fact that it comes with a 1TB hard drive, meaning the box itself isnt too expensive and it does what it says on the tin....BUT: 1: You cannot have 2 drives for storage. There is no way to turn off the Raid function, so as soon as you put in another drive, it simply copies the first, nice security feature, but I wasn't expecting it. 2: The responsiveness isn't great.
Summary: First the good part.Set up was painless popped a second drive in after installing the software and it all seemed fine. Then the fun started with transfering files.Took nearly 2 days to move 700 gig to it.That wasnt to bad as i just let it get on with it and it churned away with no problem till it was done.In use it just kept disappearing from the network and needed restarted to make it reappear again. The other pain was it was visable on the network but when you try to log...
Summary: Not only did it take weeks to arrive but, the day after I received my Netgear Stora, I'm sending it back! At first I thought everything seemed great - set up was easy, installing the software was easy and creating user accounts was also easy. Then the problems started. After the Stora was up and running, I plugged my Western Digital My Book 500gb (which was full) into the USB port on the front of the Stora, in preparation to transfer over.
Summary: From the reviews and the product info the Stora would seem to be the ideal NAS solution. I think this could only be the case if you have extremely limited computer experience. The hardware itself seems good. Solid enclosure, decent drive included and pretty quiet. It's the software/filesystem/OS whatever it is that runs on it that's the problem. I now have a drive that has folders and files I wish to delete, but I can't.
