Summary: Just don't do a firmware update and you should be ok
Pros: Easy to use, easy to set up. Really liked all of the setting options
Cons: After doing a firmware update from LG's site following the directions that now causes the device not to boot. Called LG support and required me to do a factory reset (good thing this was only used for a back up ). After the factory reset did not work I have to send it back to them. Unlike the qna...
Pros: Good price, easy to use, decent performance (20MB write, 40MB read).
Cons: Do NOT save files to this NAS directly from your web browser. Save them locally then copy them up. If you save directly to the NAS and the file hasn't finished downloading by the time you pick the location and hit "save", the browser splits the file into two files - a placeholder and a .PART file...
Summary: If you use some other backup software you will like this piece.
Pros: This is a nice unit with lots of features. It was easy to set up, has lot of capacity and the blue ray disk is a big plus.
Cons: The Comnso backup/restore software is really bad. Don't use it. The UI is annoying and it is very slow. The worst feature is that though you can back up data fairly well. You can not get it back. I have been tring for a month to restore a disk after a drive crash, to no avail. The tech help email...
Summary: I can stream music to multiple computers at the same time without compromising quality, even when using the same file. I've not read other reviews but I have had no problems with this unit except setting up DLNA to my BluRay player but that's probably my lack of knowledge of DLNA.
Pros: iTunes integration, ISO capabilities, fast transfer rates, USB flash drive connection, DVD-RW drive, Mac / PC / BluRay unit compatibility, basic set up is easy, multiple RAID options, easy to remove drives if needed, small size
Summary: After a tragic loss of the "big" drive on our old Windows SBS 2003 Server, we needed a simple, safe solution for the remaining pictures, movies, and other family documents we were able to recover.
Pros: Super easy set up Quiet Excellent web admin app Many popular web/net services offered/supported (iTunes, Media Center, Torrents, etc.)
Cons: Full, printed manual not shipped with product (PDF download of full manual needed) Firmware upgrade process is too manual (needed for admin password change patch) USB, CD/DVD, SD backups not automatic (must twiddle with front buttons)
Summary: If the account name restrictions on the device more closely mirrored those of active directory it would have saved me a lot of hassle.
Pros: Fast transfer rate over gig connections, hard drives are easily accessed and replaced.
Cons: AD integration is just horrible. You can join the device to the domain but then nothing is acessible via SMB. You can leave it off the domain and create local accounts that use the same user name and password as your domain accounts which will give SMB access to domain accounts but the local devi...
Summary: When updating firmware, go to LG support site at http://www.lg.com/us/support/product/support-product-profile.jsp?customerModelCode=N2R1DD2 and get the firmware update there. The firmware there different than what is listed on NewEgg.
Pros: A breeze to setup and comes with a built in DLNA server. Security isn't an issue since the NAS is behind a router on a local network with no outside access allowed. Plus each folder can be password protected if need be.
Cons: None... really. At least I can't find any yet.
Pros: Overall we have been pleased with this NAS and it's performance. The browser interface gui for it is mediocre but functional with an extremely important CAVEAT in the Cons section.
Pros: I installed 2 2 TB hitachi drives and although backup over the network is a little slower than I would like, over all great. The best feature I found was that I plugged in 2 BlacX external drive adapters (dual drive) with USB and firewire. I plugged both of them into the rear usb ports and they w...
Cons: A little slow, Upgraded firmware and then reset raid configuration. It reverted back to old firmware. I put in 5400 RPM drives due to cost, but it is no faster or slower than the 7200 RPM drive it came with. It seems to have no affect on the over network speed.
