Summary: I've been using LaCie's d2 Network 2 for two and a half years to support a small home Mac network. The drive in it failed last week. Truth is that this is something of a relief as I'd been looking for an excuse to replace it. When I bought this NAS I'd hoped that I could plug it in, stick it in a corner, and forget it. On the plus side, the product was very easy to set up and at the time was reasonably fast for the class.
Summary: I give it one star for being the best looking external HD out there, LaCie really knows how to design the look of their electronics. And I give it one star for how it works on the day to day once you get through the horrible setup and just plain stupid network assistant program. The last of the final three stars are for the set up.
Summary: My experience with this device was a big disappointment. First, a couple of positive comments. Amazon delivered the product very quickly and very well packaged. The d2 is a solid feeling device and is very attractive. The feature set is impressive for the price. In terms of hardware quality, it seems like a nice product. But, it did not work well at all in my OS X Lion environment. LaCie says it is Lion compatible, but my experience is otherwise.
Summary: Below you can see my original review right after I started to use the Lacie D2 NAS. Unfortunatelly, not everything lasts. The problem I was having was with directories that had a lot of files, I mean over 1000 files, not necessarily very heavy, the point is that it would corrupt the files in these directories. Not very happy. Now I need to format the drive because it has gotten super slow. OLD POST Extraordinary product! Its fanless operation is great, super quiet.
