  • Pros: SAMBA server, dlna server. full root access so you can install any package through apt-get. fast sata controller (not a budget usb attached device) OS runs mounted on a ram drive which saves power and boosts speed.
  • Cons: built in torrent client doesn't support private trackers.

"Hackable but unstable"

  • Pros: Can enable ssh and do advanced linux stuff on the drive.
  • Cons: SMB hangs or drops. AFP seems more reliable (good thing I'm mostly a mac user). Always wakes the drive up so power save mode doesn't work very well. UPNP media server works well. I use for time machine and windows backups, media server.

"Basically, doesn't work."

NewDigitig, CNET

  • Pros: Could use it as a paperweight, I suppose.
  • Cons: Works for two or three minutes, then disconnects itself from the network and locks up completely -- won't even power down on a short *or* long press of the power button.

"Wish I never bought it !"

24 July 2012
  • Pros: NONE WHAT SO EVER !!!
  • Cons: Printer server doesn't work. Slow operation and management. Was unable to use it as a cloud. Was unable to use it for remote access. 500 GB of the space suddenly became occupied, though I only used about 100GB.

"Totally unusable on a Mac-based network"

simoncroft, CNET
17 April 2012
  • Pros: Would be cheap if it did what it claims on the box. The on-line file/user/permissions management works OK, although see Cons.
  • Cons: Dangerously unreliable - took ages to copy folders, then I'd find that some or all of the files inside were missing. Also totally erratic file transfer speeds.

"Looks good, very quite, easy to step up, no issues"

RedBav, CNET
1 March 2012
  • Pros: Support gigabit network, I get about 30+ mb/sec writes to the NAS and faster reads Well priced Runs my USB Printer Likes the extra USB port
  • Cons: avg performance (noticeable speed increase after firmware update) Sometimes drive will stop working if many computers would read and write at the same time (again this is not a problem after the update)

"Works sometimes, pain to keep going, incredibly slow"

4 February 2012
  • Pros: It works most of the time and the html interface is workable
  • Cons: Keeps bugging me for passwords every 15 minutes. When I deselect security altogether, it doesn't work with TimeMachine. Usable for backup but not for files you use all the time. It is way, way to slow for that. Changing settings takes ages too.
