Loud and Dead after 4 Months

Nicholas R., Newegg
7 July 2011
  • Summary: I would not buy again. I should have returned it as soon as I heard how loud the fan was. I shouldn't have trusted it with my data. I have nothing by regrets with this purchase.
  • Pros: It functioned correctly (loudly) for a short while
  • Cons: Loud - it ran 24/7 (no stand-by mode when not in use). My refrigerator makes less noise. Started having problems shortly after the NewEgg warranty expired. (It would randomly freeze if left on for over 1 day). This was manageable until I came home one day and it was completely unresponsive (showe...

  • Pros: Quick setup to get going with Windows. No issues so far and super quiet.
  • Cons: Had it close the network connection a couple times but it reboots quickly. A reset button would be nice versus having to disconnect the power to restart.

Great product

Hector C., Newegg
19 December 2009
  • Pros: Have had it since May 09 and it has performed flawlessly. I use the print server function but don't really do that much printing so I have no complaints so far.
  • Cons: none so far

Great product.....No so great instructions

Anonymous, Newegg
23 September 2009
  • Summary: We run Windows XP, Vista, and 7 on our 3 PC's. I had to create an account for each windows user on the network drive using their EXACT windows login information. Otherwise the PC could not logon to the mapped network drive automatically when powered up.
  • Pros: Set as RAID 1 right out of the box. Hard drives are silent. Set up to share music/videos/pictures across a 4 PC network. Streams w/ NO lag!
  • Cons: Setup instructions could be MUCH better.

Excellent product, only one annoying gripe

PETER K., Newegg
20 July 2009
  • Summary: Security is not an issue for me. I want all the PC's in my house to backup to this drive automatically WITHOUT a username and password. Yes, you can have it save your credentials, but I'd prefer not to do this so that I don't forget the username and password in the future.
  • Pros: -Easy peasy setup -Default settings were exactly what I wanted (Raid 1, DHCP) -Fast gigabit -Compact
  • Cons: -Froze on me once and wouldn't shut down. Had to pull the plug :(. Was not due to inadequate cooling. -Can't seem to turn off or disable the default password -Could be quieter, but not a personal gripe.

Fine NAS - poor USB Print server

Kevin C., Newegg
17 March 2009
  • Summary: The Hard drives in the unit appear to be Western Digital WD5000AACS 500GB which go for $60 here on Newegg.
  • Pros: Hard drives are quiet. the fan is a tad loud though. Nice compact case. Cool to touch Comes preconfigured for RAID 1 so its 500 GB storage
  • Cons: USB Printer server is a joke. It doesn't support bi-directional communications. (Confirmed this with cavalry tech support - they wrote to me that they are speaking to their suppliers to find out how to enable this but no ETA). But if you planned on using the USB print server for an inkjet printer...

So far so good

Edward T., Newegg
18 February 2009
  • Summary: Does Newegg own a fleet of magic carpets? Ordered this midnight Sunday, was on my doorstep Tuesday afternoon. I have never seen a company deliver like Newegg. Incredible. They get 6 stars. Cavalry gets 4 stars with a bullet. Only been running a couple days, so far so good. Smaller than I pictured.
  • Pros: Backup security, easy to use, not bad to set up
  • Cons: Would have been nice to include some minimal software to do backups, set-up could be more clearly explained.

Simple, Simple, Simple

Seth S., Newegg
21 January 2009
  • Summary: Nice price, easy to use. Comes reconfigured for raid 1. so you will only get 500gb. can reconfigure for 1tb with raid 0. I'll keep the redundancy because ill be using it to store family photos and videos.
  • Pros: This thing is VERY simple. Plug it into the network. Explore the network and there it is. no funky drivers like my older netgear. Web interface is pretty simple too. Mine has Western Digital drives in it.
  • Cons: None So far.

Poor Quality

Joel G., Newegg
13 October 2008
  • Pros: Cost
  • Cons: Power supply cable was very loose at plug on back of unit. Unit would reset at the slightest movement. Doesn't make for a good reliable storage device.
