Summary: Been using NAS's from Buffalo for over 10 years. I've probably bought about 10 of various units from Buffalo Tech for myself and others that I help with IT stuff. Never had the trouble some folks describe. Had two drives go bad in two units after running for a few years. Swapped them out and the RAID rebuilt with no issues. This unit has 2 link-able gigabit ports that make it extremely fast for our backups. Don't be afraid to buy these.
Pros: Great system easy to setup and love the web interface. I was astounded with the quality of the physical product and found that the configuration was quite simple! I will certainly buy another one when needed!
Summary: I own a forensic consulting business. We have gone about 90% paperless over the past few years and this unit has been key to our success. In the forensics business, safe storage of evidence is crucial. Most of our evidence these days is in electronic form (photos, program data files, reports, scanned paper files, etc), so a failure of a unit can be devastating.
Summary: This is the first time I've ever taken the time to write a review, but I'm here to buy yet another one of these units, and I felt compelled to respond to a couple of the negative reviews here. First off, this is the Terastation III, not the Pro as referenced in another review. Additionally, I own a medium sized video and animation facility, with up to 7 artists accessing one of our three Terastation IIIs at all times for video, animation, and rendering, and this unit IS...
Summary: I purchased this unit to take the load off my $40,000 Equallogic while I did some BIOS updates. It performed without fail. Performance was not as good as the Equallogic, but the Buffalo has 1/4 of the drives and 1/20th of the price, so that wasn't unexpected. I would not recommend it for an VMWare environment under full load, but it was easy to set as an iSCSI Target in my ESXi environment, and took the off-hours load without a failure.
Summary: I am very pleased with my Tera station, it does everything that is advertised. Its a bit of a job setting some of it up if like me you are not that good at IT. But i have done it with the help of the tech staff at Buffalo, my stumbling block was setting up the "using web access". It would not take the Buffalonas.com name, it just did nothing.
Summary: Bought the 4TB which offers plenty of space DLNA works well with all my devices Very Good product although a bit expensive so far i have been impressed by number of Firmware updates available on the Buffalo website
