  • Summary: I never got this thing to work. I even hired pros to come in and set it up. They came a few times and it never worked. It's now literally a paperweight.

Good substitute for an HP MediaSmart

Gregory P Spata, Amazon
22 December 2014
  • Summary: This was a replacement for an HP MediaSmart Home Server (now discontinued). I thought I would be trading down by getting something without a Windows OS, but this product meets almost all of my needs. Just some minor challenges: - Doesn't use NTFS file system which means little things like XCOPY /d won't work correctly - Backup software seems pretty good, but I still haven't figured out how to create a boot disk that allows network access to restore from a backup on the...

Perfect for VMWARE or Oracle DBs

Stephen Bishop, Amazon
9 October 2014
  • Summary: Perfect for VMWARE or Oracle DBs. We've trunked the LAN connections and get blazing speeds out of it. Sometimes it gives a little problem when rebooting and setting up the IPs, but if you dork with it long enough it works fine. I've bought 5 of these now...they all work excellent!

Was worried at first.. but, read on!

  • Summary: I bought this product from my supplier, but I wanted to leave some feedback for this product - for future purchasers. At first, I was concerned and felt I might of made a bad move with this product. I was wrong. Let me explain.. I bought this unit for Business purposes. I use Backup Exec, and wanted to use 'Backup to Disk' option to backup our company's data w/ this unit. I had plans to use it's ISCSI feature, and put it on our network directly via Gigabit Ethernet.

Excellent network shared storage

PCGamer, Amazon
9 May 2013
  • Summary: Used this product for 9 computers that have a shared folder for nothing but storage. Had an old server that was there doing the same thing but software issues were making accessing a problem and was starting to have issues with the shared folder. Installed this item and recreated the network and mapped everyone to it with no problems.

A very poor product

Andy, Amazon
12 February 2013
  • Summary: The Buffalo Terastation 5200 is a very poor and buggy product, totally unfit for use in an office environment. My company first purchased the unit in early July 2012; while testing it before rollout, we immediately encountered a problem whereby if a user changed their password on the Terastation to match their Windows password, as is recommended, they could no longer map to the Terastation- after several fruitless hours speaking to Buffalo's uninterested technical...
