Not A Durable Prodcut

Doug H., Amazon
1 January 2015
  • Summary: I was very happy initially with the performance of this product. It had great network storage. Unfortunately, just short of a year, it failed. I researched possible fixes, including pushing a firmware update, and those did not work.

Alisa Daniel "Alisa", Amazon
4 November 2014
  • Summary: Over the years I have purchased 7 of these NAS Drives, no more than 2 bought at a time, at this point 6 of 7 of these drives have completely failed losing all my data. Countless hours spent with tech support, 2 fell within the warranty period, which I still had to pay to ship the item back to them,...

kel0879, Amazon
28 August 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this LinkStation because of the Buffalo reputation. It is used to store my thousands of digital photos and I was planning to use it to digitize all my developed photos. Before I could finish, the hard drive failed and the unit was not recognized on the network.

Suminder Sran, Amazon

  • Summary: I bought this NAS drive in Nov 2012. Initially when I used it sparingly it was fine - but once I started using it as my media server it really started bogging down. I had to reboot it a few times. Today Aug 2014 it has been bricked.

It dosen't last. Get a real computer for backup.

Brooklyn CPA "B-CPA", Amazon
17 August 2014
  • Summary: Well it finally happened again. I bought this drive a little over a year ago after experiencing disastrous results with another brand where the several drives failed in a few months. Here I was thinking that this drive is working great for over a year.

Do Not Buy!

Warren W., Newegg
8 July 2014
  • Summary: I had about 1.5 TB of data on the thing. Fortunately its a back-up and my original data is still in tact. Unfortunately it now means I am scrambling to get flash drives and other back-up means together to cover myself until I come up with a new strategy.
  • Pros: When it worked it was simple to set-up and use.
  • Cons: Died this past weekend. I bought this on August 14, 2012, and less than two years after purchase it is a brick. The drive made noises from the start, but I had always heard that some Seagate drives can do that. Sunday I noticed my scheduled back-up had missed its window. I tried to restart it, an...

  • Summary: I bought this LinkStation as my first home NAS and it worked okay for awhile. I was happy with it. After about a year of use it just went dead. It disappeared from my network and there is absolutely no way to find it again.

Not reliable

humbleconsumer, Amazon
5 June 2014
  • Summary: Purchased this for a small office for archiving files from employees and sharing files. Worked fine for about 1 year and then poof, stopped working (without any symptoms or waring). With the help of manufacturer support we found it is in an "endless boot loop" - what ever that means.
