Summary: I was very happy initially with the performance of this product. It had great network storage. Unfortunately, just short of a year, it failed. I researched possible fixes, including pushing a firmware update, and those did not work. Unfortunately, by the time I got back to the company, they were of no help as the product was out of warranty.
Summary: I purchased this LinkStation because of the Buffalo reputation. It is used to store my thousands of digital photos and I was planning to use it to digitize all my developed photos. Before I could finish, the hard drive failed and the unit was not recognized on the network. After much frustration, I took the drive to a computer repair shop and found out that the LinkStation embedded software was fine. The problem was with the Seagate drive that was used.
Summary: I bought this NAS drive in Nov 2012. Initially when I used it sparingly it was fine - but once I started using it as my media server it really started bogging down. I had to reboot it a few times. Today Aug 2014 it has been bricked. I turned it off for a while as I was traveling and when I came back and tried to turn it on - dead. The blue light continues to flash non-stop.
Summary: Well it finally happened again. I bought this drive a little over a year ago after experiencing disastrous results with another brand where the several drives failed in a few months. Here I was thinking that this drive is working great for over a year. Well it overheated for no apparent reason that I could think of and the drive lost all data. Gone. Gone. Gone. To the point where the Buffalo drive management software is gone as well. This is a pretty bad happening.
Summary: very good device, I access it from Windows and from Linux with no problem, I can mount it as any network resource or use the software they provide. It is great but is a little noisy. with daylight environment noise you won't note it, but at night you can hear it, is not too bad I just wish it would be more quiet.
Summary: 1. FORGET CUSTOMER SERVICE, THERE IS NONE. I SENT THEM EMAILS A YEAR AGO, HA HA (NO RESPONSE AT ALL). 2. IT'S REALLY SLOW (BUT THERE ARE OTHERS THAT ARE SLOWER). 3. WHEN IT IS WORKING IT'S OK. 4. WHEN IT STOPS WORKING, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN. (THERE IS A "FAN" WEBSITE WITH SOME TIPS...
Summary: I got this on an Amazon gold box deal of the day. So far it has worked great. I got a new laptop with a solid state hard drive and needed some extra space. This allows me to keep everything I need and not have to use any USB plugged devices. It is fast enough to steam full HD videos without any lag, and the upload isn't too bad. Sometimes I have to re-detect the drive on my network, but I don't know if that is the fault of my network or the device's software.
Summary: I had mixed thoughts about buying this drive since the reviews were all over the place. I have 2, 1TB Buffalo link stations that have been working great for a few years now. Had one 3TB from another company and it has already failed, hence the reason I bought this one. Setup was exactly as it was with the previous 1TB stations. All seems to be running now.
