Summary: I researched NAS drive quite a bit before buying and found the features on the Buffalo drives to be highly regarded. It took literally minutes to set up before I was on line and using the drive for backup. A wonderful product, I have already recommended this to many people.
Summary: I Bought a Buffalo Technology LinkStation Pro 1 TB two months ago as a music server for my Sonos. Setup was pretty straightforward. It is in the same room as my sound system, so the fact that it is so quiet is a big plus. Wired to my D-Link router and transferred my 40GB iTunes to it wirelessly (at a few MB/sec). It's been on ever since and working flawlessly. If it didn't have blue LED's, I wouldn't know it was there.
Summary: This was easy to setup. I purchased two of these units one as the primary backup and one as the secondary. I unpacked and installed both on my network in about 30 minutes. Next I configured a backup which I struggled with. I called tech support and sat on hold less than a minute. The support walked me through setting up a backup in about 5 minutes. I set one backup to run immediately (backup the primary to the secondary) and another to run daily at 1AM.
Summary: I bought this for 2 reasons, to back up my data and use it as media server for my ps3. It does the job very well. The backup software, memeo works really good. It will keep your data sync to the drive, so if you add some files, it will back that up. Very smart program. When i got the drive, it was pretty much plug and play, very fast setup. Buffalo gives you a website to access your files remotely, which is very handy.
Summary: I replaced a Lacie NAS device with the Buffalo recently, and generally find the Buffalo to be a much better unit. While the Lacie worked okay for Windows, it never worked consistently with my Linux and Mac systems. The Buffalo has a few extra communications protocols, including basic FTP, so accessing it from non-Windows systems is easy.
Summary: I was looking for a NAS with DLNA support and Bittorrent client. I saw several options but this one was the better cost-benefits. It is a single drive NAS so I did not expect to have redundacy, I like it for my home digital repository, so I can access my media from any computer in my house, and I am planning to get an network audio player. I installed it the last saturday so I had two days to test its features.
Summary: This is a fantastic product. It has served me reliably for over two years not with only 2 small incidents, which were not its fault. My only gripe is that it does not have a wide foot pad like I've seen on some routers so it can easily tip over on its side since it is much taller than its base is wide. This led to the first accident when the unit fell on its side while it was on.
