Just now having problems
John T., Newegg
7 November 2012
Pros: With two 500GB hard drives mirrored this unit has been working since 2008 and has just now lost one drive. It has been serving as our media server with 7,000+ songs and many movies along with backing up our computer.
Summary: I have yet to know what happens if a drive were to fail... hopefully I'll never have to figure it out :)
Pros: Easy to setup, great performance, data redundancy (I'm using mirrored raid). I have 4 computers in my house... I tell everyone if they want their data to be saved store it on the NAS. I also have a secondary 500GB Buffalo NAS to have an additional backup of pictures on. I think Google's theory is...
Cons: - Web interface is a bit slow but you don't need to use it very often.
Summary: I installed the software that came with it, but later uninstalled it. If you assign a static IP and mount it properly, their software isn't necessary.
Pros: Easy set-up (home network), fairly quick response and nice web interface. I set it up as RAID 1 to ensure copies of my data, connected my printer to 1 of the USB ports and haven't had any problems accessing it from Windows or Linux (mounted via cifs). I even set it up to send emails if there's a ...
Summary: I had a 1TB NAS from a competitor for about 6 months that died. Unfortunately, it wasn't RAID1. This one seems to be a far better quality product and of course has the protection of RAID1.
Pros: Great price for this amount of storage, RAID1, Print Server, Auto power feature, upgradeable drive size.
Cons: For some reason, after building RAID1, the default share was not recreated. After resetting the device multiple times and reinstalling, I finally called Buffalo customer service. After a 45 minute wait, the not-so-friendly tech asked the obvious questions, then pointed me to the web interface to ...
Pros: I bought this from last year September till now. It is easy to install with my 1TB hard drive. i hooked it up to my wireless/Lan router. Work very well with lan and wireless to my laptop and PC at home, xbox 360 as well. Stream very well for video files. I can watch them in any computer.
Cons: Take too long to shut it down, but overall is none.
Summary: Recently I had a power outage and something happened with my linkstation - the green light would not stop blinking (for almost 48 hours) and I couldn't access it. I e-mailed Marco, and he was very helpful.
Pros: Stores 1TB - much more than I need. I use the RAID 1. It's very convenient being able to access my files from both my desktop and my laptop.
Cons: The web access feature is a little tricky to get to work (or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing).
Summary: I have Vista 64 and have experienced no compatibility issues.
Pros: Easy to setup, web interface is pretty good, RAID feature works great and works great with memeo backup software. There are complaints that this box is slow, but I've used a few other NASs and this is by far the fastest and most reliable I've used. Not sure what the other people are doing with it...
Cons: When the box comes out of power save mode, every once in a while (rare) it will forget that I had logged in to it already. The easy fix is to leave in "ON", besides I'm not sure how much you are actually saving by this box going to sleep... you probably could save more by pulling you monitor out ...
