Great value

Dustin Z., Newegg
2 November 2013
  • Pros: Much faster transfers than my previous LinkStation 1TB model, and smaller. Web interface is also more responsive.
  • Cons: The fan! Barely a year old and the fan is making a really irritating noise. Cheap fan needs replaced.

  • Summary: Fast , Quiet great price when on sale compared to other NAS boxes and works with a variety of drives. Has lots of features compared to some NAS boxes. Allows you to add 1 drive then add second drive later even with possibly in mirrored mode but it may depend on what slot the first drive was placed. Manual fairly good but does require a good understanding of its features and configuration abilities and may not be for the beginner depending on features required to setup.
  • Pros: Quiet , Works great with WD RED drives. 4.5 times faster than my old Linksys nas . Streams movies through home network fine.
  • Cons: DLNA server requires a restart with current firmware when using timer options to turn NAS on and off

It works but not intuitive

Michael C., Newegg
8 January 2013
  • Summary: Any file set over 10Gb you would be better off being connected to the router. Wireless transfer for large files is very slow. My initial TimeMachine back up is 300GB in size and would take over 2 days via wireless.
  • Pros: My intended use: Local back up of photos, music, and documents from both Windows 7 based PC and Mac Book Pro connected via my router
  • Cons: This is not Buffalo's issue so much but getting TimeMachine to work with my MacBook Pro took some digging and flipping of many switches. Getting TimeMachine to work with a non Apple HDD is not without a head ache or two.

  • Pros: Solid unit, good features. Redundancy with RAID 1. Has lasted just fine.
  • Cons: It is a little slow, but not unusable. The web interface can be clunky in places, but the features are impressive. I couldn't get it to work with Time Machine, either. I also get a phantom fan failure error, even though it's clearly spinning and not overheating.

  • Summary: I bought this mainly to store my files on. It does a good job for that. The things that I didn't like about it are: 1. The direct copy feature only copies certain multimedia type files and leaves everything else. It would be better if it copied everything. 2. Turbocopy is supposed to speed up the copy process, but it still takes a very long time to copy files. 3. It only allows you to set up one level of shares.

Does the job - setup can be tricky

  • Excerpt: I configured the unit at home for a customer. However my network group was different than the customer's. When installing it at the customer's site it took a little doing to get the IP address set correctly.
  • Pros: Attractive Design, Compact, High Capacity, Portable, Quiet
  • Cons: Non-intuitive screens
