Fine if you want a 10/100Mb home network, but nowhere near 1000Mb or even 500Mb speed

  • Summary: I REEEEEEAAALLY wanted these adapters to work!!! I reeeeeaaaally did not want to have to run CAT-6 cable from the basement to the second floor office!!! I did a bunch of research and read a bunch of reviews and bought what looked to be the best Powerline 500Mb adapters available (the Netgear XAV{B}5101). And after doing some testing with them in a variety of configurations, I'm sending them back.

Netgear XAVB5101 Powerline Nano500 Set(XAVB5101) fails

  • Summary: This device works for a day or two, then my switch shows very heavy traffic on the port using this device, and the computer connected to the other end reports no network connection. It seems to be in an infinite loop and the only way to stop it is to reset one of the XAVB5101 devices. I tried a few outlets, and it did showed the same problem. All 3 lights on both units are green; the XAVB5101 seemed to be fine, but my computer said it had no connection to my network.

Didn't Work for Me

  • Summary: Given the potential large number of factors that could affect how this Netgear XAVB5101 works, I think the only way to see if this works for you is to buy it and try it out. That's why I like Amazon's return policy. Worked fine (green LED, max speed) between two receptacles within the same room - easy to set up, had it working quickly in secured mode. The LED status lights are useful in monitoring connectivity status (Green > 80 mbps, amber 50-80 mbps, red < 50 mpbs).
