List All 12 PricesRoomy 12" netbook Pre-built with recommended components. A larger screen, 3 USB ports, models with HD and full-size keyboard add to its anywhere-anytime appeal.
If you judge the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 by netbook standards, the computer has an excellent screen and keyboard. While the laptop is still small by conventional notebook standards, it should be large enough to placate some folks who find the typical netbook to be too small to make for a comfortable typing or reading experience. And weighing in at just 3.4 pounds, the notebook is barely heavier than the Asus Eee PC 1000HE . Read more
The guts of the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 are virtually identical to the IdeaPad S10 that we reviewed back in 2008—1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB HDD, and integrated Intel GMA950 graphics. The difference is the body. At 11.4 inches wide, this is one of the largest “netbooks” we’ve ever tested. The S12 has a 12.1-inch WXGA screen with a 1280x800 native resolution—far superior to the netbook-standard 1024x600, and much more usable. The glossy screen is... Read more
W hether it has been the slumping economy , the improvements in technology or just the desire of gadget-lovers to want everything miniaturized, netbook-style portable computers have been the rage for the last year. The industry standard started off at about 7 inches, followed by the current generation that sizes up at around 10 inches. Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12 manages to stretch the display to 12 inches, yet still retains the lightweight and low-price sensibility that make... Read more
With the IdeaPad S12, Lenovo produces its best 12-inch netbook yet, but there's a price premium above your average netbook. Read more
A 10-inch netbook may be fine for occasional use, but for prolonged typing or a lot less browser scrolling, you want at least a 12-inch screen. The 12.1-inch, 1,280 x 800 LCD in Lenovo’s IdeaPad S12 is a vast improvement over the more cramped 10-inch competition. The netbook’s fuller keyboard is more usable, and it ships with the common specs you’d expect for Windows XP Home. At $449, it’s a good deal for a functional ultramobile that is neither exceptional nor... Read more
This is my 3rd IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad product. This one was basically a compromise between cost and functionality. I have stuck with IBM/Lenovo over the years because of the ease of use of thinkpad's lovely keyboards (ease of use) and lightweight design. Lenovo basically cuts corners by removing several keys from their higher end thinkpad line for the lower value ideapads. So in certain situations where you want to HOME-key to the beginning of a section of words and... Read more
Lenovo's S12 page was not very descriptive so I called tech support to ask if this had the NVIDIA ION platform and was told yes, the 2959 has had the NVIDIA ION for a few months now. WRONG! Lenovo's site is constantly changing but accurate information is always lacking and so is their sales and tech support! The page for the machine I ordered - a 295954U now has more detailed information in the specifications and the video platform that came with mine is now described as... Read more
At the bottom, the price is listed as $429, but in the article it claims "low end of 500." Is this a typo, or has the price gone down $100 since reviewed? www.simpletechsupport.tk Read more
It's not a bad netbook, but overpriced for what your getting. I chose the Lenovo because it's a solid brand, and I like the Thinkpads. I wanted a light mobile laptop, and 10" netbook screens are just too small. First off, the single core Atom chip is seriously underpowered. Second, before starting any applications, it's using 45% of the 2gig ram, running Win7 alone. The battery life is not great at all, I'm getting between 3-4hrs of normal surfing, in eco mode. Speaking... Read more
