List All 1 PricesFish or fowl, vegetable or mineral, netbook or ultraportable? That's a good question. The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 (or S12-2959-5GU, to be exact), the $649 top-shelf model in the S12 line, features a 12.1-inch display and integrated Nvidia Ion graphics. It also has a beefy hard drive and memory capacities that resemble those of an affordable ultraportable like the $550 Gateway EC1430u. Its performance, however, is clearly that of a netbook, except in the area of 3D graphics. Read more
Editor’s Note : Portions of this review were taken from our original review of the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 . We recently celebrated the second anniversary of the netbook, and in that relatively short period of time, the systems in this class have grown from cramped 7-inch machines with short battery life to 12-inch laptops that blur the lines between mini-notebooks and full size portables. The IdeaPad S12 is a relatively big and well-designed netbook which lies at the borderline between subnotebook and netbook . Wow, is this thing slow. It does nothing fast. Brings me back to the days of dial-up. I didn't buy it to be nostalgic however. It is really annoying to do even basic stuff with this thing. Why did I buy this? Read more
This is my 3rd IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad product. This one was basically a compromise between cost and functionality. I have stuck with IBM/Lenovo over the years because of the ease of use of thinkpad's lovely keyboards (ease of use) and lightweight design. Lenovo basically cuts corners by removing several keys from their higher end thinkpad line for the lower value ideapads. Read more
Best netbook on the market, good alternative for a full laptop. Read more
The Lenovo S12 with an ION graphics processor is a great ultra portable computer for web browsing, word processing, video watching, and (very) lite gaming. The ION processor, the 1/3 increase in vertical screen resolution (compared to standard 10" netbooks), and a full size keyboard were the big pluses for me. On the down side, are the mediocre battery life and appalling amount of bloatware that must be removed. Read more
