The positive first impression , which the very chic look gave us, could  unfortunately only partly be confirmed at a closer look. Actually designed for mobile use, the restraints you have to accept are, depending on your individual preferences, more or less important. The main point of critique is the glossy display in reduced 16:9 aspect ratio, which comes up with an average brightness and good illumination. However contrast and colour representation are less vivid. Read more

Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10e isn’t just the S10 rebranded for the education market; it offers some features its successful predecessor doesn’t, including a Quick Start OS and a long-lasting six-cell battery. If you’re charged with buying a notebooks for a K–12 one-to-one laptop program or want a secondary computer for the home that the kids can use, the S10e, at $429, is a strong contender. Read more

The Lenovo S10e is a great netbook. The Quick Start feature is lacking and the battery life could be better. At £249, it's competitively priced and worthy of consideration. If you need extra battery life, consider the similarly specced Samsung NC10, with double the battery life, for only £50 more. Read more

Despite its reduced size and resolution, the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is one of the best netbooks on the market. It's very well built, it has an expansion slot and its battery lasts a long time. Its keyboard is hard to get used to, but some of the people we showed it to loved it. Read more

The Lenovo IdeaPad S10e is difficult to recommend, as it has few features to distinguish it from the rest of the netbook masses, while also suffering from below-par battery life. It does have an unusually compact and lightweight design for a 10-inch netbook, but compromises have been made elsewhere to achieve this. Read more

The Lenovo Ideapad S10E netbook is a compact behemoth… if you can have such a thing. That oxymoron aside, this is one of the finest mini-netbooks that (not very much) money can buy. Want to now why? Of course you do. Read more

Unfortunately for Lenovo, the IdeaPad S10e's most interesting feature, the instant-on operating system, isn't as compelling as it could be. Beyond this, it's a fairly run-of-the-mill netbook that offers mediocre battery life and poor keyboard ergonomics. Read more

Like Lenovo's long-established line of ThinkPad laptops, the IdeaPad has a plain but sturdy case, although the lid flexed more than we'd like. Windows XP Home Edition is pre-installed on the 80GB hard disk. This is enough space for storing office files and the occasional photo, but you'll need more storage if you want to carry a large video or music library with you. Unusually, there's also a 4GB SSD built in with a simplified version of Linux pre-installed. Read more

  1. right shift key makes this almost unusable

Not too shabby for a net surfer but if you want to type ANYTHING find something else. If they decide to switch the up arrow with the right shift key this could be a winner, until then typing on this thing will move your cursor up a line or more and drive you NUTS. I don't think this is something you can get use to because the placement of the shift key just is not right or natural. It also runs a little hot so the fan kicks on frequently. Read more
