The HP Mini 1000Mi Edition is a netbook which is almost similar to its predecessor, the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC, being just a little bit lighter, wider and thinner. Its dimensions are in Width 6.6 x Depth 10.3 x Height 0.95 inches with a diagonal screen size of 10.2 inches. The Mini 1000’s chassis layout is in aluminum and weighs 3.1 pounds with the AC adapter or 2.5 without it. Its three-cell battery can last for 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Features

The HP Mini 1000Mi Edition features a 10.2-inch wide-screen LCD display with a native resolution of 1,024x600-pixel. The display is covered by the same edge-to-edge glass which is found in Apple’s new MacBooks, which also acts as a glare magnet. The Mini 1000’s keyboard, which HP declares is 92 percent the size of a full-size laptop keyboard HP fit bigger keys as compared to other netbooks and even ultraportable laptops. To switch between running programs can be done by clicking on a switcher icon in the system tray, or pressing the Task Switcher button. The HP Mini 1000Mi Edition Home screen allows direct access to email, web, music, photos, and a program launcher through multiple launch panels. The Mini 1000 also has fewer ports and connections as compared to other netbooks, with two USB ports. However, HP included a proprietary recessed USB jack for use with the company’s HP Mini Mobile Drive, basically being an elongated USB memory stick. The HP Mini 1000Mi Edition includes a program manager/installer application with links to Linux software, including Open Office, Firefox, Thunderbird, Skype, Pidgin, and a few games. But applications not on Linux approved list must be installed manually and according to some users this can be somewhat tough for those not accustomed with the system. On the HP’s left side, there is a power jack, USB 2.0, proprietary VGA connector, multipurpose audio jack, which is a single port that can be used for both headphone and mic jacks, and an Ethernet port which is concealed underneath a rubber cover. On the right side can be found the SD card slot, another USB port, and the HP Mini Mobile Drive slot which is a recessed USB port into which only specially branded HP USB drives can fit. The HP MediaStyle is a basic media player with video and music playback. The speaker is built into the metal hinge giving out loud sounds when music is played from the main screen.
