Lexmark Impact S305 All-In-One InkJet Printer is just average

Excerpt: The Lexmark Impact S305 All-In-One InkJet Printer is just a averge printer and did not live up to all the hype it was getting. The fact that they Designed the cartridges to not be refillable, then having them run out in a remarkably short period of time is just so they can make more money.
Excerpt: I purchased this printer for about $20 as a packaged deal with my laptop at best buy. I figured despite the reviews I would go ahead and get it. It has been a pretty great printer up until a few days ago. The printer finally ran out of black ink. I found a few comments on the internet saying you could use 105xl ink for this printer ($4.99). This cartridge does physically fit into my printer but the printer wont recognize the chip.
Pros: The setup was easy and the copier worked fine.
Cons: The scanner doesn't work. You can make one scan, then you have to unplug and restart the printer for each separate scan! The Lexmark support was fine, but I wasted too much time trying to get this to work.
Pros: It was easy to set up but the day to day frustrations quickly eliminate this pro. I realize this is an inexpensive printer however I bought this printer based on reviews I had read earlier this summer and felt compelled to wade into a review.
Cons: Continuously lose connections with laptops in the house (Alien ware, Dell, Acer ,HP). You will print from a laptop it won't print this throws you into a troubleshooting rout. of epic proportions. Usually reboot of laptop and rebooting the network.
Pros: Fast - good and easy setup - scans well -s fotware is ok -
Cons: MY GAWD!! I got 30 prints sheets out of a xl black cartridge -when I complained I was told too bad - or in essence nothing they would do - I am VERY disappointed in this printer - the ink will ruin you - I have to get rid of it - I cannot afford it!
Summary: Well, the installation process is easy to follow and well thought through, and the printer is well specified. And our last Lexmark was great. But at the end of it all, the printer still wouldn't recognise the print cartridges or the printhead. This is a known problem with batch of these printers. I know that now: I've done some research. So can you: type "Impact S305 won't recognised printhead" into Google. There's a site you can go to to update the printer firmware.
Summary: Printer looks good and when it's working the quality is good enough for my small business needs but twice in the last month it has suddenly stopped working and I've had an error message saying that a component is missing - even though it was working fine 5 minutes previously. It takes a reinstall to sort it but this is just the kind of thing that takes that spare half hour out of the day you thought you had and is hugely frustrating.
Only for your own use - not really fit print quality to send out

Summary: If you want a printer to quickly print up notes and letters for personal use and the quality doesn't matter, then this might do the trick; more than that, and I would say this is not right for you. I've had mine for three weeks and already I've been through one black ink cartridge, after no more than 80 sheets of text.
Summary: I bought this printer after reading various positive reviews, including the ones here. I wanted a printer that would be reasonably good at printing photos and which I could print to from computers running both Windows and Linux. It came down to a choice between this and a similarly priced model from HP. I wish I'd chosen the HP one, having had five years of good service from our previous HP printer.
