Summary: Very few photos printed with this all-in-one, and now it flashes an "Ink system failure" message which nothing will fix. I have changed the cartridges, cleaned the nozzles which the cartridges attach to, and tried every possible combination of turning power on and off while holding different buttons down, etc., all to no avail. I have another HP Photosmart printer (printer only) which uses the same 6 cartridge setup, and it has done the same thing.
Summary: This is my last HP printer. I have never had a Photosmart printer last for more than 2 years. They just die (actually I kill them!!) Kaput...it just doesn't work anymore. We have Epson and Kodak printers in the household and they just keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny. The difference is that they have an inkjet cleaning protocol you can execute periodically.
Summary: We saw this all in one box at our local Costco, to us it seemed like a bargain, printer, scanner, copier....well it worked fine until the ink cartridges run out, then hell started. Bought a new set of ink cartirdges (about $56 each) and they dont last long!!! if the ink runs out on any cartidge then the whole machine refuses to work until you purchase more ink, not even the scanner works if the ink runs out?? WTF??
Summary: Was a great all in one printer at the beginning. after the 3rd batch of inks It stops printing and closes randomly and gives an error code blinking waisted 190 dollars. Used for about 5-6 months. after that we tried 3 different sets of printers and it never worked again.
Summary: Cee Jay says: I was begining to think I was the only one experiencing weird problems with my c8180 and that it had demons in it. For several nights I would wake up after turning my printer off to all the lights on blinking wildly.( My printer is in my bedroom) I couldn't get it to stop by turning it off or on so I had to unplug it to get it to stop.
Summary: I have had this printer for a year and a half and it just stopped working. Not only that, but the quality of the printing isn't very good - the black ink bleeds terribly. I have been an HP fan for a long time, but I think it is time to switch to Epson.
Summary: First off: great scanner. You want to scan old slides? This is a great scanner. That's where it ends. I have to literally reinstall the printer every time I want to use it. The printer wheezes all night, drops its internet connection every 20 minutes, complains about being shut-down improperly, etc. It's physically too large, even for an all in one. The constant cycling and re-starts are clearly burning energy for no good reason.
