Summary: Bought a few years ago. The quality if not good for photos and average for text. We use genuine ink cartridges but now it says ink system failure. I have to restart (which takes about 2 minutes). Then I'm able to print. Then after it says ink system failure again and have to restart to print and happens each time. We have to buy another printer now.
Summary: The printer only prints in black and three colors. I bought it for photos and they are horrible. Based on discussion with HP, the printer head is failing and unrepairable. A waste of my money!
Summary: As with 1000's of others who have commented on line, this and other HP printers of similar design have faulty capacitors that fail causing "ink system failure" messages on the printer LCD screen. Unit has to be turned off then back on to reboot every time you want to print something.
Summary: I bought this printer because I have been a big fan of HP printers for the last 20 years. I needed photo quality small prints and a decent scanner. When this printer worked I got beautiful prints and okay scans. But given the state of landfills today we need to be making products that last more than 18 months. Mine has had a complete meltdown starting with non-existent paper jams and now complete ink system failure.
Summary: Don't buy this printer. It's the touchiest piece of equipment I've ever owned. I can't tell you how many times I've practically been in tears because it won't do the simplest task -- tasks that it's done a million times before. If you breathe on it wrong it gets all messed up, won't print, won't scan, endless error messages that are impossible to decode. The INK -- my god, you'll go through so much ink!
Summary: I was enamored with the appearance of the printer and the listed functionality, exactly what I needed, until I tried to install it. I had been a loyal HP user for years and although they were becoming more troublesome with each printer I bought, I was determined to keep using HP. I really thought they were the supreme beings of printer makers but I will never buy another one, ever. I'm tired of the frustration.
Summary: This printer is not what they had said. It Did Not Work as a NEW printer let alone a refurbished or used printer. My old printer that is the same make & model works better. This was with out a doubt a very BAD purchase by myself & will not happen again.
Summary: I have made the decision to trash this printer now that I've tried for over a year to get it to work as promised. I should have realized during installation that this was going to be trouble as I had to install and uninstall it several times. Finally I went to a computer guru in town and he was able to install it. Later however, due to complications with the program; HP suggested I reinstall again. Then there's the scanner..

Summary: The Printer Broke in only 9 months, HP won't honor the warrenty, they only want to sell me another one. I typed "company won't honor warranty" in yahoo browser and found many complaints on HP for this.
Summary: After about 18 months, the scaner failed. There is a bad section in the scaner head causing missing information from the top to the bottom of the scanned image. I had insurance from HP and filed a claime. They are sending me used C309 N machine. This is not the same equipment as the failed unit.
