Summary: Comments about HP Photosmart C5180 Multifunction Printer: I love this printer and the design. It’s great for the money and works surprisingly well! We have 3 three at the office and now getting one for the home.
Pros: Easy Setup, Easy To Use, Great Print Quality
Summary: I really wanted this printer to work, I really did, and spent easily 15 hours -- eight or so with HP tech support -- and did many installs/uninstalls, but scanning crashes on Vista every time.
Pros: Slick looking machine, fast for an inkjet, no problems with XP or Ubuntu, built-in Ethernet connection, nice combination of (putative) features.
Cons: Scanning does not work with Vista! Product is supposedly Vista-certified, but scanning through the bundled HP apps or as a TWAIN device in, say, Photoshop crashes every time with an hpqscnvw error. Scanned image quality is relatively poor -- can't get rid of Moire or screening artifacts.
Summary: Printer works fine. Easy to install across a home network. However, the software that drives the printer seems to be full of bugs. The printer driver causes the computer to continuously check the network connection, using up computer resources; and the printer driver causes windows xp shut down...
Summary: Overall all in one works fine. excellent print quality. print and scanner is noisy. Scan quality is a bit less quality than my old epson. My beef is with the software, a real memory hog that took 40 to 50 minutes to install on our pc and laptop that are not really that outdated.
Great Mac software. Beautiful photo prints. So-So scanner.

Summary: The C5180 is like most all-in-ones -- it saves a lot of desk space, but can't do everything equally well. It's best used as a home copier and printer. As a scanner, it's only average. Using HP's new inexpensive 6 color "02" ink, it produces gorgeous photo prints when you use photo inkjet paper.
Summary: This all-in-one produces great quality color prints and is ok as a manual copier, but the Windows software that attempts to run it is just awful. I don't know how HP could release software this bad!
