Summary: The unit self powers down to save energy, but cannot be woken up. Once asleep it does not respond to the Power button, the only way is to unplug the unit from the back and plug it in again! Tech support was of no use, could not provide a software upgrade or other fix. A complete waste of $115.
Summary: Pros: It has HP's logo. Cons: The wireless print option continuously fails and the overall ink consumption is extremely high even when printing at 'standard' for documents. I'd recommend looking at Canon or Epson as they seem to have gotten it right lately.
Summary: The 4580 was a waste of money. The scanner/copier quit working completely within a month of buying it. HP was NO help trying to fix it. We had several other people look at it, & eventually gave up. It's very loud when it starts up and prints, and half the time doesn't recognize it's own cartridge.
Summary: Can I give this 0 stars? The printer, scanner and copier worked fine for about 6 months. It was very noisy and actually shook the table it was on but I learned to live with it. Then one day the scanner stopped working. I need the scanning feature for my job so I contacted HP Tech Support.
Summary: Who would have thought HP would put out such a terrible piece of equipment. From 'wireless' problems that they can't (won't?) fix to a constant 'unrecognized' print cartridge (which is their own brand!), this has been nothing but trouble.
Summary: DON"T BUY A WIRELESS PRINTER FROM HP.I bought a Photosmart C4580 printer last summer and the wireless "radio" has a known software glitch that HP technical services has been unable to fix for six months now.
Summary: i'm usually a big fan of HP and their printers. however, i've had this particular printer for a little over a year and it gives me almost a daily headache. first of all, the power button doesn't work so EVERY time my printer goes to sleep, i have to unplug and reboot.
Summary: While the features and reputation of this HP printer may be compelling, it is not Mac OS X 10.5 friendly. It has been a problem from day one. It goes offline in the middle of printing, indicates a printing error that clears if it is unplugged and restarted and the scan function does not work at all.
Summary: I wish that I had read the reviews before I bought this printer. I had previously been a very satisfied customer of a HP 3310, and when I purchased my Mac, I thought that it would be a great idea to have a second printer in my house as it is four stories high.
