What has happened to HP?

Summary: I've had HP printers since before Windows 3.1 and have had good reliable performance from them with reasonable ink costs and decent backup from HP - UNTIL NOW! Th C4380 has given me nothing but trouble since the first installation to my wireless network which includes Mac (10.4), Windows desktop and Windows laptop (XP).
Summary: I dont know what it is with HP and their software,it is so intrusive! You have to be extremely careful when selecting installation options or you will spend the rest of your computing life being connected to HP sites to buy supplies, fill in surveys, register the product (which incidentley they seem to want you to do on a daily basis even if you have registered it already!).
Summary: As a HP customer (as far as printers go) for over 15 years, it was HP I turned to for a new Wi-Fi printer. Bought the HP4380 and found it easy-ish to set up wirelessly (very easy for main PC, slightly awkward for others in house). Initially worked quite well, then it stopped working giving me an error "print cartridge(s) missing or not detected". A quick Google revealed that I was not alone with this issue. I followed various suggestions, but none worked.
Summary: The C4380 printer may function effectively, but I must say I have NEVER had a printer which requires so many new cartridges - I barely change it and print 40 pages or such and it runs out of ink. I would therefore not recommend this as the purchase price may be reasonable, but it is very pricey to maintain.
Summary: I bought this antagonistic printer because of its Wi-Fi facility but now after a succession of problems am on the verge of cutting my losses and buying a cheaper, less ambitious model. As previous reviewers have stated, the software takes a long time to download. That for me, however, is not an issue. What has been an issue has been the inability to establish a reliable Wi-Fi connection that doesn't fail at the slightest provocation.
Excerpt: "Looks great value with an impressive technical portfolio at the price. But it is bloated with a dumptruck full of buggy software. It's a printer/scanner with delusions of being as important as an operating system. Admittedly, it can guide to an online order for ink replacement, but when it comes to something more basic, like printing documents and scanning photos, it can treat it like an unusual request. I have lost count of the number of times it ...
Pros: Impressive tech spec
Cons: Bloated software, more attention to bells and whistles than basics
I am taking it back - wifi on printer goes to sleep after a day.

Summary: This printer is the cheapest multifunction printer/scanner/copier on the market that has integrated Wifi. The integrated Wifi was my reason for buying the device, as I live in a small place and wanted to locate it in a cupboard using no wires. I have not had the same difficulty setting up the wifi on the machine as others in caparative reviews. I used the software and its relatively plug and play and works first time.
Summary: Buy it only if you are a IT pro. For the common man there are so many installation problems that it is not worth buying. Most of the printers are plug and play these days, unfortunately C4380 is not one of them.
Cons: no escanea . no imprime . no existe ningun servicio tecnico
