Summary: I have used this printer for about 5 months in my employer's small office - 2-3 employees. Received paper jam message. Cleared the paper jam. Tried copying again but got the same message. Followed the video on the printer to check for paper jam(s). Did this then the printer has been in a continuous "checking printer" status and that is before and after doing the "reset steps".
The bottom line for all HP all-in-one printers.....

Summary: What people say, summed up in as few a words as possible comes down to this: If you get a good one.... that is, one where it all works..... they are fantastic! Wow! If you get one with problems...... they don't get better, and you are pretty much on your own. If you need customer service for anything other than something VERY simple.... good luck! HP customer service is really as bad as all those who have had to use it say that it is.
Summary: Had HP8500a for about 11 months. Prints slow for starters. Document feeder quite working. Called hp tech support they advised it was out of warranty by 18 days after we finished trouble shooting and the ADF still would not feed paper through. I checked my original purchase paperwork and found out I still had another month left in my warranty. I called hp back they advised to verify the proof of purchase and they would verify warranty.
HP Upgrades in my opinion the Crappy 8500 Premier/pro etc

Summary: Had the 8500 and it went south after about 14 months of very light use (little fragile plastic pieces on the paper feed assembly BREAKS). Zero chance of customer repair even if I could find the parts (little nylon gears and other plastic stuff. Would have bought another brand, but I had a boatload of the ink tanks for the 8500 series. Kinda made the fiscal choice of purchasing another printer pretty restrictive.
Summary: WHAT YUTZ CREATED A MACHINE FOR OFFICE USE WHERE YOU HAVE TO TAKE OUT THE PAPER TO INSERT/PRINT ENVELOPES? SERIOUSLY. PEOPLE WHO DO NOT DEFINE THEMSELVES AS TECHNO-REFUSE-TO-BATHERS USE THESE MACHINES. THIS IS BEYOND RIDICULOUS.
Summary: I have not installed the product yet. Will wait to review later. It will be a month before I install it. Printer has been installed for several months now. It is performing better than expected. Photo pinting is great, scanning feature works well, seldom jamming or skipping pagees. We are very pleased with it.
Summary: Came out of the box fine. Set up was reasonably easy all though a little confusing on the wife's apple. Can't get the wireless scan to computer to work on her computer. Wireless scanning was working on my computer then stopped working. Wireless printing works fine.
Summary: I am not a heavy user of this printer so for my purposes I am fine with it but cannot give it a glowing endorsement. Set up was easy and the wireless functionality works well. I like being able to use it to print from any computer in my house. Touch screen is nice and big and easy to use. Copying: works well but I usually only copy a few pages so not sure if paper handling would be good for large jobs.
Summary: The HP OfficeJet 8500A Pro printer does have nice features and it does represent an advancement in technology. But it does have its drawbacks and its important for people to know about them prior to purchase. The unpacking and setup is a bit of a challenge if you are not tech-savvy. The instructions are in some ways almost too simple. If you can follow pictures you are probably okay.
Summary: My expectations for this printer were pretty high when I bought it, but I don't think my general disappointment stems from being unrealistic. There are things which a printer ought to be able to do--cancel a print job without crashing, for example. The general print quality is adequate, but not spectacular. The feature set is competent, but not impressive. The print speed is average, and in many cases exceeded by the 8 year old printer which this replaced.
