Summary: I've had this MFP for about 6 years now. It's being replaced because the hinges to raise the top panel to access the flat-bed scanner have broken. One broke over a year ago and we were able to make it continue to work, but with the second one broken there's no saving it as it continually reads an error. It functioned pretty well but I always felt the HP software was atrocious- not very user friendly, used too much computer resources, etc.
Summary: I have owned an Hp J6480 for about 4 years and would like to offer the following comments regarding the positive and negative issues that I have experienced. PROS: There are a number of performance features of this all-in-one printer that I really like. I can print from nearly application without great difficulty, I can FAX using my VOIP telephone line, I can scan and copy from the glass or paper feeder to get either paper copies or computer files in several graphic...
Summary: Well I thnk I've had close to 3 years from this printer - so I guess in todays electronics - that's not too bad. However, the extremely frustrating thing is that it still appears in good condition, but the issues of communication between my laptops and the HP Officejet 6480 have become so intolerable that I have to mothball it. (You're welcome to it if you want). It worked almost flawlessly for 2 years - and then errors started appearing every where.
Vista and OS X won't work together with the HP Officejet J6480
9 September 2012
Excerpt: I bought the J6480 printer and connected it wirelessly. It worked fine for printing from computers running Vista computers but when I tried to scan, it was unreliable. This problem became worse when I installed the printer/software on a Mac running OS X. It looks like when you instal these to the Mac it works find with the Mac but the printer stops working with the computers running Vista.
The HP Offijet J6480 All-In-One -- definitely 3 stars!

Excerpt: I definitely won't give it 5 stars and I can’t give it 4 stars. We got ours from Office Depot for around $338 a little over two years ago (in 2008). Of course, they've gone down since, but at the time, that's what we needed, an All-in-One. It was in our price range, was the “best” printer according to the sales rep, so we decided, great, we’ll take it. Our DELL A920 had quit functioning one day, but it was old. The Dell we had was easier to use than this HP All-in-One.
Excerpt: I believe I purchased this all in one printer on newegg during a presidents weekend sale. It worked great for a good two years, however I do have to note a few cons. The printer started to act weird and the LCD screen shows up broken and unreadable at times. Having 64-bit Windows 7, I had an issue which led me to only use the computer by means of usb, rather than wirelessly. Other than that, it was a great fax machine, copier, scanner and printer for the time being.
Excerpt: The HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One is a nice all-in-one for not a lot of money. This model is wireless and you can print, scan, fax, copy & upload photos with it. It is not very big. It does not take up a lot of room in your home or office. I use it through my network with my laptop. I can print from any room. Mind you, my apartment is small. It runs pretty fast and has good quality document printing. There is a couple problems I have found. It freezes up sometimes.
Summary: Since this HP Officejet J6480 is NOW a much older model... be aware of the pricing (Over $500 is absurd that someone would ask that here on Amazon). Newer models with current technology are readily available for less than $250.00 or below. The HP J6480 is a very good printer but if you're wanting to buy new... at least LOOK at the 2011-2012 HP models, NOT this older 2008-2009 design and manufacture.
Summary: We've had this for over a year. This has been an aggravating printer. Look at how involved it is to make it connect wirelessly (Mr Yo's review). You shouldn't have to go through that to make it connect. Some times it connects, sometimes it doesn't. It will connect for a while and then it isn't. As for double-sided printing - again if worked all the time it would be great. It will work for a while and then stops. Save yourself some aggravation and get something else.
Summary: I bought 2 of these printers about 15 months ago, one for me and one for my mom. My mother's has given nothing but trouble since the beginning. We both have Macs and setup on a Mac takes 1 hour with customer service on the phone. My mother's printer gives a "paper jam" message EVERY SINGLE TIME she prints, even though there is no paper jam, even though I have fixed the problem with customer service and even though I fix the problem myself.
