Summary: This printer was a gift and worked just OK for a couple years (often had printing problems, cutting off the bottom of the page, etc.) Then it developed a "carriage jam" error that would not quit. The carriage was stuck all the way to the right, and the platform in front of the ink cartridges is elevated so you can't even remove ink cartridges. I googled this and apparently it's a chronic problem with this printer.
Summary: I've owned this printer for around three years now and it is the worse printer I've ever owned. Connecting unit to WiFi means having to have the machine connected to a USB cable first and hope the connectivity lasts. No matter how many times I re-install the drivers some issue will pop up.
Summary: Worst printer I have ever owned! I have to re-start it almost every time I want to use it. Uses tons of ink--never works! I have owned this printer for about three years and I know how to operate computers. If I had to use it all the time I would throw it away and get a different one. DO NOT BUY!
Summary: The hardware isn't the problem ... this printer has performed a very basic multi-function role in my home network. The one bummer is I've got the broken lid-bracket issue that so many others have run into ... one day the bracket simply breaks and your printer doesn't quite shut close like it used to. Dumb. However, the worst is the software. I can't even get the printer to install and work using a direct USB connection. I'm done with HP.
Summary: To install this printer it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to download the latest drivers and software. To get it installed on your router you have to first set it up with a USB cable and then remove the cable to set up the wireless. What a pain. Then you turn you PC on one day and it says there is an updated driver and you say OKAY and your headaches start all over again when the software update takes forever and then may or may not install correctly.
Summary: I have had a lot of Windows 7 compatibility problems with this printer. It gives false paper jams and sometimes prints 5 sheets of coded garbage before printing the requested print. Sometimes the requested print is only about an eighth of the page and it quits. I fixed this problem twice but it seems that every time windows updates I have to research the problem and attack it from a different avenue.
Flemsy plastic hinges break - Open Door Error - Can't print
Centre Line, Amazon
30 September 2012
Summary: I have have liked the features of the J6480 printers but ready to get away from them. There are cheap little plastic hinges that hold the ink cartridge lid. There is a pressure switch under the hinge that is not accessible. After you change the ink cartridge a few times these cheap plastic hinges break off leaving the switch open creating an error message that prevents any functionality. I am never rough with my equipment.
Summary: Been spending about an hour trying to send off a print from two different computers. One is an XP machine, and whatever program you try and print from crashes as soon as the print dialog appears. The other is running on Windows 7, and was set up wirelessly. Even sending test prints on that computer, I either get "print canceled", or it just fails to print.
Summary: The entire back of the printer and the printed paper collection tray were missing. I ordered it on Friday requesting 3 business day rush to receive it on Thursday. I specifically searched for and purchased this machine to urgently replace an identical broken printer. I was disappointed that it took so long that I ended up making alternative arrangements. Since the machines are identical I guess I will replace the missing parts from my old machine and keep this new one.
Summary: This is the worst POS printer I have ever used. Wont fax, prints crooked on every print, jams on feeding from the top when copying, fax, or scanning. Software is a joke. Then after you break the lcd screen out of frustration (my fault nothing faulty with the lcd screen prior to me dropping the peoples elbow on it) you call tech support only to not understand the people on the phone. Please save your money and buy anything else.
