Summary: I've had this MFP for about 6 years now. It's being replaced because the hinges to raise the top panel to access the flat-bed scanner have broken. One broke over a year ago and we were able to make it continue to work, but with the second one broken there's no saving it as it continually reads an error. It functioned pretty well but I always felt the HP software was atrocious- not very user friendly, used too much computer resources, etc.
Summary: Here's what has gone wrong with the printer so far: -When I first upgraded to Snow Leopard there were no drivers for two-sided printing and I wasn't able to use that feature for a long time until drivers finally did come out -The printer now doesn't shut off properly. It hangs at the shutting off message. I have to unplug it and plug it back in.
Unreliable wireless connection (Offline) and ink hog
20 March 2014
Summary: The J6480 goes into "Offline" mode far more than it should and always forces me to reinstall a 'new printer' and deleting the existing one. How annoying. Also, I rarely (literally, rarely) use the color ink cartridge yet one is required to be installed for the printer to work and yet it drains just as fast as the black cartridge. This is a a total misrepresentation of the number of pages that can print too.
Summary: Was looking for a dependable all-in-one to replace an inexpensive HP Deskjet 2514 that lasted less than 6 months before it quit pulling the paper through. I first saw an HP J6480 on a computer service call to hook up a new computer for an elderly couple. Their Linux Mint computer connected easily to the HP J6480 both wired and wirelessly. The couple raved about how well the printer had worked for them since they bought it new about 2010.
Summary: I've owned this printer for around three years now and it is the worse printer I've ever owned. Connecting unit to WiFi means having to have the machine connected to a USB cable first and hope the connectivity lasts. No matter how many times I re-install the drivers some issue will pop up.
