Summary: This printer is a disaster. No matter how many times I install new drivers or try to update the software it fails to connect after a single use. The scan function routine gives a "fail to connect to scanner" error message. Luckily I received this for free from work. I am a cheapo but I have run out of patience for this machine.
My second HP printer is yet another disappointment

Summary: Print quality was fine. Scanning was awkward, but it worked. But I got constant, cryptic error messages, so I would just keep hitting "OK" and it would eventually work. That was annoying, but I could live with it. But of course, just like my previous HP printer, it broke after 16 months of very light use. I never even got through a full toner cartridge before the mechanical parts of the printer just stopped working.
Summary: Decent quality laser printer and scanner, but the ADF (automatic document feeder) is a weak point. After about a year and a half, it would stop scanning and indicate an ADF jam for no reason. No amount of troubleshooting tips from the user guide had any effect. Since the ADF is not replaceable and it was out of warranty, I just got whole new printer. Just days after the warranty expired on the new one, the exact same thing happened. Time to try a different model.
Excerpt: We had some software issues getting the printer hooked up and it took quite a while. Biggest surprise for me is how much toner it uses. With my last printer, the toner lasted over a year. It's been five months and my second toner is already running out. For me, I like an actual printed manual and this doesn't come with one. So I emailed HP to see if I could get one, the response was a bit snotty, giving me a link to print my own or look things up online.
Excerpt: I bought this printer in lieu of a replacement toner cartridge for an existing printer. The printer cost me $17 more than the existing printer cartridge. I consider this printer to be a throw away. I do like the reduced footprint and the LAN capability. Although the software was loaded in the primary hard wired computer, I needed to install the printer software on the other computers using the router to access the printer.
Pros: Compact Design, Easy To Set Up, Fast Print Time, Lan Capable
Cons: Exposed Supply Tray, Fax Capture Of Phone, No Custom Reduction
Summary: I've purchased a few of these for our workplace and what I've found is that sometimes they work fine and sometimes they don't work at all. You can't install just the driver for them, either. They will not respond unless you install all the junkware from HP, nor does HP provide a standalone driver. The printer will randomly cut off large chunks of print jobs that, when sent to other printers, would not get cut off.
