Summary: There is a new touch screen model that is better. This is harder for a novice to scan from. you have to use the Scan feature on the CD provided or on software within your operating system,. not a good push button scan to feature available here.
Summary: This printer is a disaster. No matter how many times I install new drivers or try to update the software it fails to connect after a single use. The scan function routine gives a "fail to connect to scanner" error message. Luckily I received this for free from work. I am a cheapo but I have run out of patience for this machine.
My second HP printer is yet another disappointment
K. in California, Amazon
24 January 2014
Summary: Print quality was fine. Scanning was awkward, but it worked. But I got constant, cryptic error messages, so I would just keep hitting "OK" and it would eventually work. That was annoying, but I could live with it. But of course, just like my previous HP printer, it broke after 16 months of very light use. I never even got through a full toner cartridge before the mechanical parts of the printer just stopped working.
Summary: Decent quality laser printer and scanner, but the ADF (automatic document feeder) is a weak point. After about a year and a half, it would stop scanning and indicate an ADF jam for no reason. No amount of troubleshooting tips from the user guide had any effect. Since the ADF is not replaceable and it was out of warranty, I just got whole new printer. Just days after the warranty expired on the new one, the exact same thing happened. Time to try a different model.
Summary: I've purchased a few of these for our workplace and what I've found is that sometimes they work fine and sometimes they don't work at all. You can't install just the driver for them, either. They will not respond unless you install all the junkware from HP, nor does HP provide a standalone driver. The printer will randomly cut off large chunks of print jobs that, when sent to other printers, would not get cut off.
Summary: We bought this printer for our HR department. After as little as 30 days of use and 40% of the toner left the printer started to leave streaks of the page faded\unprinted. Taking the toner cartridge out and putting back in would fix it for 20 more pages then it would occur again. Replacing the toner with a genuine HP toner would fix the problem for another 3 weeks then we would see the same issue when the toner reached 30 to 40 % remaining.
Summary: Apparently there is an issue with the scanning software with this all-in-one; any time I scan to a pdf the size of the document is 3'x4' and there doesn't seem to be any way to change this! I've had to download another scan-to-PDF program as a work around which is ridiculous. HP tech support just says to reinstall the drivers which does nothing.... too bad because the quality of the prints and ease of use otherwise is great.
Summary: I did not buy this at Amazon but potential buyers should be aware: The unit is slower than rated by most reviewers, no big surprise. Print and scan quality are adequate. The document feeder jams occasionally but that is de rigeur at this price point. Sadly, the software renders this machine useless utter than for basic functions: --it will not scan at less than 300 dpi; HP suggested buying third party software!
