Avoid: HP M475dn LaserJet Pro 400 Color Multifunction Printer
17 November 2014
Summary: Pros: - Good functionality to scan and send directly to email accounts. - Auto feed scanner solid. - Print from IOS device - Easy to setup. Cons: - Lack of firmware updates. - Despite what their websites say the printer cannot print full color pages clearly. - Color correction makes everything darker. - Horrible for a business solution. - Laser print cartridges very expensive. - Limited printer apps. - Firmware update link on HP's website does not work most of the time.
Summary: I have never had a problem asking this printer to print or make a copy. However, I don't think I have never NOT had a problem asking this machine to scan. Whether that is scanning to a computer or using the top feeder to make a copy, it is awful. HP man tried to fix it, nothing doing....you can't fix broken. Must be a design flaw. Anyway, I do NOT reccomend this machine if you think you may be scanning or using the top feeder, at all!
Summary: I like everything about it except scans, which are terrible. Don't seem to find an adjustment, but copies are great, prints are great, but scans come out with a grey background rather than white, which makes them unusable professionally.
Summary: based upon other reviews here i would have to say I'm not alone in scanning issues. This has to be a defect.that HP needs to take care of. If you want some frustrated end users though, buy this printer.
Pros: Print quality is good. Easy enough to setup.
Cons: VERY flaky scanner. Sometimes wont pull pages through, sometimes will stop 1/2 way through a page and say job complete. Says "device busy" A LOT when trying to scan (usually after its been sitting idle for a while). Runs out of memory (only shows 46mb available out of 196? can you say bloatware?)
Send fax from PC just stopped working out of the blue

Summary: See title, contacting HP just has you uninstalling and re-installing the driver multiple time. I get the HP Laserjet Send Fax Fatal Error msg "Unable to communicate with the device. The device may be disconnected, powered off, or its network settings may have changed." I am pretty sure none of those three are true. I can print, and scan just fine. Printer is networked and this is the case on all my small office computers btw. I can fax just fine at the machine.
Unreliable scanner sheet. Good product, does what it claims. £140 cashback from HP and a free professional onsite service call.

Summary: I'm broadly impressed. Good product, £140 cashback from HP and a free professional onsite service call. After much research and some questions on this webpage, I chose this multifunction printer for my home office. Specifically I wanted: * Colour laser printer with automatic duplex printing, * Automatic double sided scanning, * Wired rather than Wi-Fi network printing. Unimportant to me was: * Faxing (haven't tried it) * Sophisticated web based interface.
