Summary: Save your money and get something else. I won't buy an HP again.
Pros: Purchased in July of 2009...Worked until August of 2011..Everything worked great. Pretty soon it wouldn't fax, and then you had to power cycle the thing to get it to print one page..and finally it died. All in a matter of 3 months.
Cons: It died early. We spent a lot on it..and the cost to fix the board was a lot...
Summary: HP tech support is worthless, they have no fixes to the bugs this printer has and are not working on any. Luckily I got mine on sale for 350 shipped if I remember right. Maybe I'll buy a print server for it.
Pros: Has page feeder, can duplex, fax, copier, scanner, front loader for envelopes,... all the things i wanted from a work printer.
Cons: sometimes the fax just randomly cuts off pages in the middle of the page. After 2 years the network would no longer connect, now have it on a very long usb line and all other printers printing to it via the one computer. It is very annoying, I bought it as a network printer and it no longer works...
Pros: Nice all in one package, works well when new.
Cons: horrible driver support, scanning is slow. eventual software/firmware issues with lockups, sold 4-5 of these, and 3 came back to bite me with issues. will no longer sell as they just aren't reliable.
Summary: I thought I had a winner with this printer, and would have given it 4 eggs a few months ago, but the formatter board issue is a killer. HP extended the warranty on that part for a year, but it expired a year before I really started having the problems.
Pros: Print functionality is great, duplexer worked fine. We really appreciate the flatbed copier in our homeschool! This has been a decent unit for us for the three years we have had it.
Cons: Driver support is spotty, especially for 64-bit Windows 7. Also, there is a known issue with the "formatter board" which causes this unit to either lock up completely requiring a restart, or randomly restart itself. Google searches indicate to me that this is a widespread problem. See more below.
Summary: Search for the other HP 2727 items on Amazon. These multifunction centers would be great, if they didn't die. I have had two die in a little over a year. Same death. Others have had 3 or 4 replacements from HP. I love HP's, but these are horrible.
