Summary: I upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. This printer would print fine, but the scan function was not installed. It was determined to be a bug in the upgrade process. I had to refresh Windows 8 Pro from the recovery disc (apps are recovered, desktop programs all need to be reinstalled). I downloaded the HP 4.3 full function software from the HP website and did a save only.
Summary: Works as it should in most circumstances but is not totally compatible with Windows 7. Having to write a minimum amount of words to satisfy ebay is why a lot of reviews don't get written. Is this enough yet?
It's a Good Printer. HP replaced shortly after a year. Things are working fine once again.

Summary: I use Linux and rarely use Windows. I know Windows software/drivers are terrible updating as you can never tell if you need to fully uninstall older software or just install over it. With Linux, I just use CUPS and things just work. I also have installed the additional hplip (linux drivers) for printing (not needed as it prints Postscript Level 2) and scanning (binary driver). The hplip drivers, with qt/kde/gnome features compiled in, are bloat to me.
Summary: This is a really good printer. Not GREAT but good. We are using this as an office printer so we use it a lot. Our last one lasted 2 years almost before breaking down. If its at home and you don't print all the time you will probably get more years out of it than you need.
Summary: We have 5 of these in our office. Very reliable HP printer. The newer models have lower price point, but the cost of toner is much higher. If you print many copies at all, it's better to spend the extra for the 1522.
Summary: I really like this machine for the hardeware configuration - nice product, nice functionality, nice footprint and everything works from the console of the machine just fine. Had problems with the Toolbox utilities, and eventually couldn't scan. Called HP Tech support and got this resolved very quickly. They were very responsive, remotely accessed my PC and diagnosed the problem.
Be prepared if you have your fax hooked up to a modem!

Summary: This is a great all-in-one product, but beware if you have a fax line that comes in through a modem. Apparently, the HP Laser Jet series is not compatible with digital signals. you will have to purchase a modular filter (I got one from Radio Shack for $20). This filter will chnage the digital signal, from the modem, into an analog signal going into the fax. Otherwise, you will receive NO faxes.
Summary: This piece of office equipment is great. Fast printing, copying, faxing and scanning. Has a great software for either Mac or PC, which is a great advantage in a office with several computers with differents OS. Not the 5 Stars cause the first toner cartridge last for only 1000 pages, lets see how it goes with the replacement; it should last at least 3 times more, since 2500 pages is the average on laser printers of this size.
