"The worst printer I have ever used."

ejlo2000, CNET
14 April 2013
  • Pros: prints fine when it works.
  • Cons: I've only needed the thing periodically. It just doesn't work or communicate well with my computer. I'm about to toss it out and never go back to an HP product ever again! It has had two product recalls and I've never been able to have reliable work.

"Unacceptable product"

LouLouDone, CNET
31 July 2012
  • Pros: Worked for a time.
  • Cons: This printer just stop recognizing the USB connection between printer and computer. No amount of uninstalling and reinstalling software fixes the problem. No help to be found on HP website.

"Awful machine. Wish I'd never bought it. Don't buy it."

jhgreenstein, CNET
3 May 2012
  • Pros: When it works it's ok. picture quality reasonable. Lots of features and paper drawer is easy to fill. TAM feature is nice (answer machine connection, fax listens in and grabs if necessary)
  • Cons: Software finicky, doesn't always work on Windows 7, even on XP I had to reload the software 4 or 5 times. Keeps showing all sorts of errors and turns itself off. Toners don't last long and expensive.

"Worst HP Printer Ever!"

jacobchiong01, CNET
19 July 2011
  • Pros: Good way to waste money.
  • Cons: Software and Driver not straightforward if you are using diverse operating systems like me (XP, 7, Mac). They can learn a thing or two from Brother printers. Printer unreliable - failed twice - once within 3 months, once one month after the one year war

"Much better than others have rated it"

mike2977a, CNET
2 July 2010
  • Pros: Used for a year now. Absolutely no problems. Prints, copies, faxes, scans very well. Accessed over the network, you can print and scan to a pdf; also send faxes from your computer. Supplies are reasonable from third parties
  • Cons: Frankly, haven't found much to complain about. We now have two of them!

"HP1522 will die and replacement will also die!"

MikeFromTexas, CNET
8 June 2010
  • Pros: Makes money for HP because you will need a new printer every time you turn around.
  • Cons: Memory error / Scan Error / Fax error. I have installed over 30 of these printers. Over half did not make it through first year. HP replaced. All replacements died with same errors just beyond warranty. The last HP1522 was DOA right out of the box.

"After just 14 months my $500 printer is a paperweight"

perpetualv, CNET
8 May 2010
  • Pros: while it worked it was great, but I've got this thing in a cool room on a UPS - have only gone through one print cartridge. There is no reason for it to have failed this quickly.
  • Cons: It has developed a "scanner error 5" message which three repair centers tell me means I should just buy a new printer. Apparently scanner error 5 means the scanning assembly has failed, and a new part is $325 + labor to install.
