Summary: I took my machine out of the box, plugged it in and all was well - it managed to print, copy and scan 1 or 2 page documents. But the moment I started using the Automatic Document Feeder, nothing worked as advertised. ANY document of more than 5 pages or so would, NINE times out of ten, freeze the scanner or jam the paper. Either way, you will need to power off and back on and start again because the scanner will remain "busy" and unusable until you do.
Summary: This printer is OK. I use it every day at work. My main gripe is that it calibrates itself at the most inopportune moments: it calibrates itself before, during, and in-between print jobs. Calibration takes anywhere from 1-5 minutes and cannot be interrupted. Why does the printer need to calibrate itself six times a day when I'm only printing 40 pages?
Summary: We have an IMac that runs both OSX and Vista. We use the machine for both personal and small business use. The Good: This machine prints excellent color quality. Scan quality is OK for standard 8 1/2 x 11 sheets. We use the fax sporadically and it works well. We've had no problems moving from Mac to Windows and making use of the same printer. We wanted a low-end MFP with laser quality and are generally pleased.
Summary: I purchased this printer instead of the 2840 due to bad driver reviews associated with the 2840. Unfortunately, the drivers for this device are bad too. Beginning with the minimum install size of 400 MB. Yes, the driver automatically installs all sorts of maintenance and other applications. No, you cannot deselect them during or after the install. The drivers also add 32 seconds to boot time for every PC I installed them on.
Great laser value & performance, but inkjet a better choice

Summary: Let me address the whiners. First of all, this machine only goes through a calibration cycle approximately 10 minutes after being powered on. Admittedly, this is a bit of a pain, as the procedure lasts 4 minutes. If you can't live with that, just leave the machine on during working hours -- as with most of these devices, the 1312 goes into sleep mode, which is adjustable, and thus consumes very little energy.
