Stay away from this printer, its not worth the headache!
18 September 2013
Summary: I purchased this HP 2840 for use as a small network printer, it has been the worst printer we have had to date. After nearly 4 years we have only printed 9,000 pages on it, and it has been in for servicing at least 2-3 times per year (major servicing). This printer also makes horrible noises, and calibrates itself every hour, even after newest firmware update.

Pros: Makes a great boat anchor.
Cons: I've got only 250 characters to tell you that it rarely worked, took up half the space on or under a credenza, the toner was ridiculously expense and it was a maintenance nightmare. And, UGLY? Don't get me started!
Cons: I doesn't have any features that are different from the $80 printer I had last time, except it will print more, and scan a bit more. It doesn't work with Windows 7. It is very loud, and chugs away all night at random times.

Pros: Prints well, scans ok, and can receive faxes (I don't know why that's important anymore)
Cons: Terrible driver software that hogs resources. Expensive print supplies (one of everything costs way more than the printer). Networking is OK for printing, possible for scanning, useless for any of its other "features"
Pros: Multi-function, and allows multi-tasking for sending a series of FAXes.
Cons: S L O W performance, image quality is only average, and color printing aborts *often* with a "PAGE TOO COMPLEX" message on nearly *any* page. HP's programmers must spend the majority of their time writing error messages rather than fixing software.
