Nice, but not great printer.

Summary: Nice printer, but does not print PDFs well (draws a series of lines through them). Very quick for Word documents, web pages and prints most JPEGs okay. Quiet. Low energy draw. Good ink economy. I bought this after using an HP color Laserjet for the past 10 years, since we just moved and retired and did not want the expense of the Laserjet ink cartridges. Although it's a reasonably nice, lightweight printer, I definitely miss the Postscript performance.
Summary: I've had HP inkjets for years (decades, actually) but the ink hassles finally got to me (acquiring "fresh dated" ink and avoiding clogged nozzles). I wanted a medium duty printer (only) appliance with the prospect of more efficient ink usage. This Epson model checked all the right boxes. Based on a couple months usage, it has been completely reliable. The printing is amazing fast and has the look of a laser printer.
Summary: This Epson WP-4090 works great. It is faster than my work printer while printing and it starts printing quickly without mysterious whirring. Happy. Had an issue where it would not recognize connection for printing to begin - checked troubleshooting on-line and bought a new USB with A and B (whatever that means) and it worked perfectly.
Summary: The printer is working well; however, I have only printed about 50 pages. I like that it prints very fast. The printed copy catcher is different than on most printers and is a little bit "cheesy".
Summary: I own the XP-310 Epson printer, not this model. However, there is some corporate greed technology in the XP-310 that is most likely in all of their printers. I actually really liked my Epson printer until it came time to replace the ink cartridges. I always look at the replacement cartridge prices before I buy, and the Epson were cheap.
Summary: If I was rating this printer only on the basis of print quality and speed, I would give it 4.5 stars. I have used faster printers, but this Epson is satisfactory. The color prints out very good for my purposes. I am using this printer in a office setting. HOWEVER! This printer, like so many others, artificially claims to be out of ink before the ink is actually gone.
Summary: We bought this printer to replace a home-office printer of another brand that had become too costly to maintain. We moved to Epson because we were very disappointed in the low reliability and high maintenance cost of the name brand printer it replaced. Our initial ordering experience was a disaster.
