Epson Stylus SX515W: good printer but cheaper inks not always compatible
2 weeks ago
Summary: I bought this printer purely on the basis that there are cheap ink cartridges available for it. The scanning is easy and the print quality is great. However when using compatible ink cartridges, there are often ink compatibility error messages. I have had to replace ink regularly due to error messages only to find the cartridges are still full of ink. Additionally, the cartridges block up the print head and the printer does not function correctly.
Epson Stylus SX515W: My first printer and maybe my last.

Summary: Epson Stylus SX515 inkjet all in one wireless printer The layout of this all-in-one device is pretty conventional. The whole model is as black in colour as black can be with the scanner lid having a decorative pattern of grey dots adorning it. The control panel to the left of the lid is made up of buttons that are set flush with the unit.
Pros: No smudging effect, even on low quality standard paper, very swift mono printing, built in Wi-Fi
Cons: Slow colour and photo printing, quite noisy paper transport mechanism, recommends Epson's own cart
Summary: The Epson SX515W is an All-in-One multi function printer that has the usual print, scan and photocopy facilities. The printer itself looks fairly sturdy with a carbon fibre style design in Black/Grey on the scanner lid and side control panel, with standard Black plastic down the front and sides. As with a lot of cheaper Epson printers, it only has a vertical rear paper feed which tends to lead to more problems than a front horizontal feed tray.
Summary: This product is very good for £100 as it has a scanner which can cost quite a bit of money to buy on it's own, it works as a photocopier which was a surprise for me and it is a printer. The product is wifi so you only need one per household and if you have a lot of peope wanting to use the same printer at once it means everyone can do it from different computers saving you a massive headache.
Excerpt: "...I decided to purchase another Epson Printer. What made me defect from what had been a brand I had tried and trusted for many years, might you ask? Well, one reason was the price, It was on offer at an unbelievably low price. Reason number two was availability. I saw the bargain in the store, and just paid for it without a second thought. I hated that printer with a passion. It was difficult to use, and please don't get me started on the cost of ...
Summary: I bought this printer from Amazon as a replacement to a cheap (useless) HP all in one. I wanted it to primarily print lecture notes, as well as scan the odd document in. The fact it was wireless was a bonus, to be honest. Set up was easy, given the included driver installation and driver setup CD. Then once the printer has joined your wireless network, you are free to print.
Summary: I am a university student doing a design course, therefore need a scanner, printer, photo printer, normal printer, which obviously are all included in this product. I've owned it for a year and had only minor issues involving the wireless connection to my computer, which were easily resolved. The build quality is not fantastic, however it is expected at a cheaper price than higher end brands.
Summary: I bought this product for my grandmother as a birthday present, as she isn't great on computers but she isn't a complete technophobe. I thought as the printer is wireless it would be ideal for my nan as she could just press print from her laptop and it would work anywere in the house. The printer worked fine for about 3 or 4 months but when it came to changing the black ink cartridge the problems all started.
Pros: Excellent Printing Quaity.
Cons: In my experience I have had a lot of problems with this product.
Summary: I have had this printer for about 12months. It is an all in one printer. I find the printing quality to be good, and ink cartridges seem to last longer than my old HP all-in one printer. Ink cartridges are also reasonably priced, and with colour cartridges you can just change the colour that is running out. The fast draft print mode produces documents that are barely readable, so most of the time I have to use standard mode.
Pros: Good to be able to replace colour ink cartridges separately
Summary: I've always struggled with printers - either the paper getting stuck or the colour ink being of poor quality or smudging of the ink. Well I haven't experienced any of these problems with this printer! I'm finally printer satisfied!! It was relatively easy to set up and the instructions were clear on how to get the Wireless up and running - no more printer cables getting in the way!
