Summary: Our CX5400 is still going strong. We live in Taiwan, so maybe the humidity keeps the heads from clogging. Early on I decided to leave it on all the time, because it seems to go through a head cleaning (ink usage) each time it powers on. I have it plugged into an Apple Airport so it prints wirelessly (but does not scan that way). Prints both letter and A4 paper, copies well.
Summary: Count me as part of the prestigious clogged nozzle group. Nothing I can say hasn't already been mentioned elsewhere, but I did find a walkthrough on fixing it: [...] It's not for the faint of heart, though. I consider myself pretty electronics/mechanically inclined and I'm a little wary of attempting this. If my printer was under warranty I'd just send it in, but I don't have that option unfortunately.
Summary: I had this printer for about a year and a half, and used it mostly for scanning and an occasional print. It does an adequate job of scanning. Color printing was pretty good, but text printing was very slow - draft or low quality would spit out unreadable text with numerous breaks in the lettering that made it unreadable. Ink is very expensive, although the ability to buy individual ink cartridges instead of one large multipack was nice.
Summary: I've used various HP,Lexmark and Epson inkjets for the last 10 years at work and home. I have only one complaint about the Epson CX5400 printer regading the color printing lasting thru 300 pages or less, Black ink only lasts 1000 pages or less. I've experienced print head clogging like everyone else who's reported on this review area, but have managed to get by the clogging and have the printer working again after going thru the maint. options of nozzle cleaning.
Summary: First of all, I can't use any setting other than the Highest Quality Photo setting when printing photos. Normal setting results produce horrible banding and streaking. Also, as did Christopher Ireland, I have been getting a red cast to my photos printed in Photoshop. I use this machine mostly to print 4x6 color 'headshots' of our staff for various purposes. I always use glossy precut 4x6, HP paper with the 'tab'.
Summary: I bought this piece of junk in 03. I don't print very much but am on my 3rd set of inks. And the nozzle is plugged. The black quit working even with a brand new cartridge. It seems to use and waste ink during head cleanings. So now with the head clogged I'm using up all my ink even though I can hear it sloshing around inside the cartridge. I have spent 280$ on this loser and am going to buy an H.P.
