Review: Epson Expression Photo XP-850 Small-in-One Printer

Macworld
23 January 2013
  • Excerpt: (1 items) The Epson Expression Photo XP-850 Small-in-One Printer’s talents may lean toward photos, but along with the superior image quality, it’s also a full-featured, fairly fast color inkjet multifunction (MFP) with automatic duplex printing and scanning. Its $300 price (as of 01/22/2013) is steep, but it includes other premium features, like CD/DVD printing. The Expression Photo XP-850 is generally a joy to use.
  • Pros: Great-looking photo output, Automatic duplex printing and scanning
  • Cons: Washed-out color graphics on plain paper, Clunky push-scan setup

Epson Expression Photo XP-850 Small-in-One

PC Magazine
19 January 2013
  • Conclusion: The Epson Expression Photo XP-850 Small-in-One inkjet MFP is a little weak on text and graphics quality, but what it lacks in output quality it makes up for with a long list of features.
  • Pros: Simplex (one-sided) and duplex (two-sided) printing, scanning, copying, and faxing. Prints on discs. Ethernet. Wi-Fi.
  • Cons: Below-par text and graphics quality. Low paper capacity.

Epson Expression Photo XP-850 review - Versatile multi-function photo printer

Macworld UK
4 September 2013
  • Excerpt: Inkjet printers tend to fall into two categories – general-purpose printers designed for use at home or in the office, and more specialized printers that offer high-quality photo printing. Epson’s Expression Photo XP-850 attempts to offer the best of both worlds, providing high-quality, six-colour printing for photo output, along with features such as a fax machine and automatic document feeder for office use.
  • Pros: excellent photo output, Ethernet and wifi networking, scanner and fax
  • Cons: text quality could be improved, not very fast

Epson Expression Photo XP-850

MacWorld
27 June 2013
  • Conclusion: The Epson Expression Photo XP-850 would work well as a photo printer that will occasionally double as an office MFP. It’s at least one feature better than the Canon Pixma MG8220 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One, which lacks an ADF. The HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer is a comparable and worthy alternative with a lower price tag.
  • Pros: Great-looking photo output; automatic duplex printing and scanning
  • Cons: Washed-out colour graphics on plain paper; clunky push-scan setup

An all-in-one unit with a small size and an ability to produce fine photo prints

Good Gear Guide.au
1 May 2013
  • Summary: Epson's XP-850 has a 6-ink system that a great job on photo prints, and unit overall is an interesting proposition. It's small and mostly intuitive to use, and it has essential home office features such as an auto document feeder and auto duplexing. We're not fans of the output tray design, though.
  • Pros: High-quality photo prints, Small footprint, Google Cloud ready, ADF and auto-duplex
  • Cons: Motorised output tray and screen, Can't scan directly to USB sticks
