Summary: This is not a very reliable product. We have several of these units that we service and are experiencing a 25% failure rate with the scanning mechanism. This effects both scanning and copying.
Summary: I chose this rating because this printer is barely functional. The scanner and copier functions do not work. The indicator shows that it is "locked." After searching the online manual and doing a google search, I can find no way to "unlock" the scanner. Other models show an unlock switch, but there does not appear to be one available for this model. Also, the printer quality is not good. Everything I print has marks on it. These marks are not ink or toner smudges.
Summary: This printer model has many issues. The laser and fuser go bad very early and Dell does not offer replacement parts for these. The fax software is a pain to use, does not work well and is very complicated to set up. The speed could not get any slower, especially the first page because it takes forever to warm up. The imaging unit which has to be replaced every 15000 or so copies is well over $100! When one toner color is out, the whole thing becomes non-functional.
No manual paper feed - Runs VERY Hot - Print Quality Is Good

Summary: This is an inexpensive printer but you get what you pay for. There is no manual paper feed such as they offered on the 1600n. The unit runs VERY hot - so hot that during heavy usage the printer burned out and they had to send a new one. The toner cartridges only last 1,500 pages and are just as expensive as those that will yield 5,000. I would not buy this printer for more than occasional home use.
Summary: I bought this printer, because it was the cheapest all-in-one color laser printer that I could find. The Microsoft and DELL web sites said it was compatible with Windows 7. WRONG!! This printer IS NOT compatible with Windows 7. All it does is crash my PC. So, as of now, I'm putting this printer up for sale.
