Summary: The product arrived with plastic parts broken (paper feeder, etc.), but fortunately I had a similar model (that was not operational) and I could cannibalize plastic parts. My older (nonoperational) model looked brand new (on outside) compared to what arrived ... but, alas, it was functional.
Summary: I posted a printer problem fix on fixyourownprinter.com and am reprinting it below. I have owned a Multipass 3000 and now have the mp390. I have used the printer for several years and when it is printing it works just great. But there seems to be a chronic problem with the print head (black) clogging up. Here is my post. Try this in lieu of purchasing a new print head. I have an MP390 Canon Multipass printer.
Summary: Perhaps I haven't noticed, but my print head has worked quite well for years. I realigned it once or twice, but the photos are great and the day to day b/w printing has been flawless. Buy your ink cartriges on eBay for about 99 cents each and it's inexpensive to maintain. Maybe I got a good one, but I highly recommend it for home and small biz.
Summary: This is my second Canon multifunction printer, the previous being a "MultiPass" 3500. Overall, I liked the older one better. Even though the older one also used two ink tanks, they were larger, the controls of the MP390 are not as user friendly, etc. In any event, the old machine had an option for uploading faxes to your PC. It was then easy to delete junk faxes without having them consume your paper and ink.
Summary: I've had this for a while now and I have no complaints. Canon printers quality surpasses that of Lexmarks. Delivery was fast and it was packaged well. I did not appreciate that it was delivered with the products box showing. Should have been wrapped in delivery paper. What are you waiting for? Hey, it's a Canon!
Summary: It wasn't quite as easy to plug and play as I would have thought. I've gotten the printer working but I haven't had time to play with the copy or fax function. So far I've gotten good quality prints. I'll evaluate more over time.
Summary: While it is only a month old and difficult to assess long-term quality, this all-in-one seems to be of high quality and has a ton of features for the price. Everything worked as advertised out of the box. This is my third Canon printer and second scanner and I have been pleased with the quality of all of them over the years. Gave it 4 or of 5 only because I can't vouch for long-term results yet.
Summary: A little slow before printing, a bit noisey, but printing looks good and ink is cheap and so far is dependable, that's more than I can say about my Epson. For the money I think it is a good buy.
