Summary: I ran 589 scans in one afternoon before I decided to write this review. It feeds paper well, took all of the odd-ball sizes (through the ADF) a few on the Platen. Software is flawless; a misfeed will get deleted from the queue and it allows you to place it right back where it came fom on the feeder.
Pros: All-in-one for real, great software for general printer usage.
Cons: Slow on the take-off but okay once it starts going, reason for the 4 stars instead of 5.
Summary: The costs of ink made us rethink how we use a copier. In fact, most things we copy could be just as well scanned and stored on the PC. So that is what we are doing! Having it available as a network scanner is awesome.
Pros: Well built. Attractive. Quick warm up time for scans. Good quality scans! Software is well done, but was frustrated I couldn't use as a copier that sends output to my laser printer (to avoid excessive ink costs). It was EASY to setup the wireless using WPS. No long WPA2 keys to enter. Having the ...
Cons: A little hard to reach in to put the print head and cartridges in. They could have used a couple LEDs inside that come on when you lift the top to put in new cartridges.
Summary: Many years ago I owned and used a Pixma MP 500. I still have it in my attic? It was a nightmare to figure out doing simple things. This Pixma MX870 is such a leap forward it's not at all funny. Plug and play for the most part. I did go online for update on Canon sight.
Pros: Very user friendly. Great all in one choice. Laid out well for a novice, or a pro.
Cons: Only one. The soft ware for the printer will not let me add the tool bar. Will not yet jive with Beta IE
Summary: I purchased this to replace a Canon Pixma MX700 that had stopped sorking after 4 years. I was leary about purchasing another Canon due to this failure, but in the end I decided that 4 years was a decent run on a printer and that I wanted to stick with a familiar mfg.
Pros: Duplex printing; does what it claims.
Cons: Documentation was a bit confusing. For example, there were 3 different sets of directions for installing the print head. The software loaded without issue, and I had no problem connecting our three computers to the printer through our home network.
Summary: Have not had in operation for long enough to give a full report on ink usage. A lot of printing is done on existing laser printers. This is mainly used for scanning, copying and the occasional fax.
Pros: Easy wireless network setup. Prints well. All features operate well. Easy to use screen instructions. Many good features included such as double sided printing
Cons: Slow warm-up for first copy/scan. Cuts off a bit on very top line through feeder scan. Ink can be expensive. Bulky - but then most are in this category.
Summary: Set-up on our home Wi-Fi network was straightforward using Widows Vista and XP and a FIOS Actiontec router. Most of my printing is documents (text, spreadsheets, and websites) which appear just fine.
Pros: Easy to setup with a WiFi network, easy to use fax/scan/copy/print capabilities, reliable duplex ADF and printing, relatively quiet for an office environment
Cons: First page delay in printing, relatively expensive Canon ink cartridges
Pros: It starts up very quickly (or at least a lot quicker than the MP730 it replaced). Print quality is really good, but I am not an expert. I like the paper tray that holds a decent amount of paper. I like that it goes into sleep mode when not in use.
Cons: The round dial is a little hard to control. It wasn't the easiest thing to figure out duplex copying (2 -> 2). I went to one of the menus that said to enable 2 sided copying, but that didn't work. I finally found in the copy settings that you need to do the duplex copying in there. I had it hardw...
