Summary: I purchased printer primarily for the scanning function and then as a secondary printer for production runs since my primary is a higher end photo printer and slow. For scanning it does an adequate job, no real complaints. Unfortunately, as fate would have it, my primary printer went belly up about a month after I bought the MX420 so I am now using it as my primary printer. The speed is pretty good and regular prints are pretty good as well.
Summary: Decided to save money and buy a cheaper version of the Canon I used to own, which mysteriously stopped working after only 3 years. This machine is very similar, but seems like an intentionally annoying printer... to make you wish you'd spent more. I loathe this printer. It is very noisy when it operates, emitting loud, clunky bumping sounds. When you turn it off it emits a beep loud enough to wake a person sleeping in the next room -- completely unessessary!
If you want good picture printing capability, look elsewhere.

Summary: I bought this printer after reading reviews here on Amazon and a few other places and was expecting great things, especially from a Canon product. Set up was easy. However, this printer is LOUD. If you have a baby sleeping in the next room or are trying to be quiet, everyone will soon be awake. If I were going to be using this printer merely for its document printing and scanning properties, it would be fine (although not worth $108, maybe $50).
Summary: This printer is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH INTERNET EXPLORER 9! also, when you scan something it makes it a pdf file in adobe, which can't be saved into a word document without paying adobe a monthly subcription to covert the files. When I called the help number they told me to go into the start menu and then click all programs the click on the mp navigator to change the fild type to a jpg. And that I would have to do this everytime.
Summary: I looked hard for a replacement for my HP all-in-one (I have had several over the last 8 years) and thought I would try my luck with Canon. The printing is fine enough. Copying from the control panel gives only the very basic options. I still can't figure out how to make the darn print darker. But my real frustration is with the scanner. I thought for sure I would be able to scan directly into iPhoto since it is Mac compatible, but can not.
Summary: When shopping for a printer, I searched for "airprint" printers becuase i wanted to be able to print from my iPad and iPhone. This one came up. It is NOT an airprint printer. I called Canon this morning and they provided me with a model number of an airprint printer. Other than that, the printer is fine.
Summary: The printer is able to print, but not unless everything is set perfectly. This would be OK if the settings did not reset, and the WIFI worked. I take my stuff in to work to print and scan now.
