Excerpt: Canon’s MX420 was priced at 130 USD when I purchased it. It is a multifunction printer which is capable of printing, copying, scanning and it can also be used as a fax machine. This runs on color inkjet with USB 2.0, bluetooth, WiFi and Ethernet.
Summary: Great printer! I really like its design. The feeder is pretty slow, but alright. Its speed of printing is pretty fast in color and black and white. I don't like the scanning program. The ink is ok. I love the price, I paid $120. Set up was easy. It prints photos on photo paper is very high quality and faster than most other printers.
The WORST printer I have ever purchased. A huge rip off.

Summary: I am a grad student. Needless to say, I use my printer a ton - whether it's printing out research articles or my own work. To that end, I know exactly what features I want in a printer and only consider those models that have all of them. With all that said, I can unequivocally say that this is THE BIGGEST RIP OFF OF A PRINTER I HAVE EVER PURCHASED.
Summary: Considering that the next "up" model is almost twice the price - and the main features added are the increased resolution for scanning and the auto duplex printing - but at the cost having to manage more number of cartridges, this model provides a compelling value. The biggest issue seems to be the tad slowness of the printer over Wi-Fi (could be attributed to the network itself, perhaps) - especially when you set a duplex print with multiple pages on a sheet.
Summary: After purchasing a new Windows7 desktop, I found my Dell 946 AIO wasn't supported. I was also often in need of ink cartridges for the Dell and found those prices distressing. I found everything I was looking for in this Canon Pixma MX420 printer. Once again needing cartridges for the Dell946, the $60 I would have spent on them was the catalyst for my new printer purchase. I am wholly pleased with my decision.
Summary: Like some of the other reviewers, I feel like Canon/Amazon pulled the ole switcheroo on me. Printer works fine on heavy Windows/OSX network, but will not print from iPhone or iPads. You have to download a Canon App and that only allows photo prints and scanned prints to be printed wirelessly. So you can scan something that you need to print then turnaround and print it. Awesome! Basically, you can't print out a quick email or webpage directly from the phone.
Summary: Bought the Canon Pixma MX420 in December, and due to hectic schedule, never had a chance to take it out of the box until two weeks ago. Instructions were unnecessarily complicated for setting it up, and had to call my computer guy to help me do it. Have been using it for two weeks, light use, no pictures, for business, and now I am unable to copy, print or fax because the paper feeder keeps jamming! I did buy a new package of paper, and wonder if it's too light weight.
Summary: I needed a printer to replace my HP 5440 which was outdated for my new desktop pc which uses Windows 7. Since I was in the market for a new printer I decided to opt for an all-in-one model(scanner, fax, copy, print). I have had the Canon Pixma MX420 for approximately a month now and have used all facets of the machine. It is such a time saver to have the ability to use all of these functions from home rather than running out to fax or copy items.... love it!
