Summary: I checked Consumer Report before I bought the 980 & did my homework first & glad I did!!! Many of the reviews I read were all very Positive about the printer, the only Negative ones I read was the issue on ink usage! Those who say that the Pixma 980 is an INK MONSTER is just plain old "CHEAP"! Those are the same buyers that stock up when McDonalds or Burger King runs specials on Burgers at $.20 each & you get what you pay for, nothing but a GUT GRENADE.
Summary: THIS PRINTER WILL JUST SPOIL YOU.I AM TOTALLY HOOKED .MY WIFE IS JUST THRILLED WITH IT THAT SHE STOPPED USING HER PRINTER IT IS HOOKED UP TO WORK WIRELESSLY WITH MY ALUMINUM MACBOOK PRO. THEY WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER .THE PRINTER HOLDS YOUR HAND FOR EVERY FUNCTION IT DOES. IT IS SO EASY TO USE.
Pros: Black and White photo's, LCD Menu, 35mm film, software, very solidly constructed Very fast printing from sleep mode. Scanner is fast and detailed.
Cons: 1) You can't connect both wirelessly and wired on a network. I like to connect wired to my work PC because it presents fewer problems with my VPN client. 2) The directions are not the easiest to follow. 3) Black ink goes fast.

Pros: Lab-quality photos Film scanner Great menuing system Built-in wifi Built-in card reader High-quality ICC profiles for the various Canon photo papers Exceptional detail quality with 1 picoliter droplet size
Cons: Ink tanks could be larger, but they're OK i guess Totally inaccurate review by CNET
Summary: Canon MP980 Wireless All-in-One Photo Printer Some of the reviews here regarding setup made me hesitant to purchase this printer even though PC Magazine had given it an excellent review for printing results. For the last 3 years I have been using a Canon iP5000 photo printer with good results and in fact the only reason for me to switch was the difficulty I was having using that printer in a networked situation.
Summary: I am a serious amateur photographer, an owner of a Canon dSLR, six Canon lenses, none of them cheap. I shoot RAW and post-process all my photos and view them on several calibrated monitors. I am very picky about photo quality. All I can say about this printer that it exceeded all my expectations. I used it with Canon paper so far. The results are brilliant prints, well developed but not light or hazy shadows, no blown highlights and very good color accuracy.
